Wish there was soma way we could emphasize a welcome for little tots, only. For the last couple of years we've noticed the callers at our door getting consistently older. We treat them only because we really fear they'd trick us they are certainly big enough to do something disastrous. One doesn't mind passing out free treats to the little kids because they are so cute about it but that same feeling doesn't exist when the doorbell is rung by someone old enough to buy all the treats they want for themselves. Others have mentioned this same complaint to us so at least we're not alone in this ill feeling. 3lf FALL SPECIAL STARZIP'S AM Costuming has become big business. Have you noticed the hundreds of different kinds of costumes at the local five and ten? It used to be that one only bought a mask and rigged up an outfit to go with it. Now you can buy the complete ensemble without spending a great deal of money. And they've gotten away from horror oufits as the only costume. Many of those on display are famous fairytale characters. Children find them more appealing at least ours did. They walked right by the ugly faces . . . their little minds were made up as to who they wanted to be. This was our year to buy new costumes for the young'uns. They'd outgrown theirs of the last two years which has to be expected. n 0 4874 South State Actually we have loads of fun on Halloween, answering the doorbell that is if it isn't our year to take the tots around. If we're lucky enough to have the doorbell watch we always find it amusing. The costumers approach the door with anticipation and wait until Dad or Mom is safely out of sight. No sense in having an uncostumed parent give away the identify as the suspense of who it is makes it even more fun. Lately we've noticed quite a few parents are even joining their children in costumes which all adds to the spirit and enjoyment of it. They seem to get as much fun out of it as do the children, and sometimes they even pick up a few treats.
