Manwell was held hitless through the first five innings by pitcher Gary Thurgood,while Teinert'a garnered only three hits to the sixth inning off pitcher Whitey Ratliff. In the 7th, Ratliff blasted a triple and scored on a fielder's choice for the first run of the game. Don Howard, Teinert's shortstop, smashed a homer over the lef tf ield barrier to knot the score in the bottom of the inning. Manwell salted the game in the top of the 11th when catcher Walker singled, advanced to second on a throwing error and scored on Ratliff s double. The! Manwell pitcher scampered! home with an insurance run when Ken Thompson pounded out a single. Bob Wood, Teinert's second baseman, led off with a single in the bottom of the 11th to keep his teammates' hopes alive. However, Ratliff struck out the next two batters and g Jim Heusser to got fly out to deep center to end the ball game.
