"That Brockbank team was a darned good team" Cushing said, "as were all the rest of the league teams. It was a real tough league to compete in for all the teams were built around good competitive ballplayers. The recipe to their success? Cushing said that the team was Just that and did not necesarily rely on any one man. "Then, too, the support we got from Teinert's, our sponsor was a big help," he said. "They were behind us all the way and during the Murray tournament, Walt Teinert offered $2.50 worth of merchandise to the players who knocked them out of the park." Cushing chuckled and added, "Stan Bankhead, our center fielder, knocked out five homers and we were kidding Walt that he might have to give the keys to Stan." Who were the members of a team which had such a fabulous season? One of the key figures was Jimmy Heuser, the catcher. Losing Jim during the state tou rnament because of a broken leg hindered Teinert's title quest, Cushing said. Jimmy comes from an athletic family.
