Show Speeding Car Kills Kitten, Playmafe Of Off-Operat- 4-Y- ed A thoughtless speeder Monday evening killed the playmate of a old Murray girl. The resultant tragedy was almost as sad as if the victim had been a child, for ''Cyclone" was not only a favorite pet of Colleen, but of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Paul E. Christensen, 144 Hast 5600 So. "Cyclone" was a valuable Siamese kitten, only 4i months old. The Christensens purchased him as a gift to their tiny daughter after she had undergone ,i L Old Girl ear serious palate opera: ion lant April. Needless lo say, the news that "Cyclone" was no more brought tears to Colleen's eyes. But tears are not new to this little tyke, who lias a surgical hi: toi v d:it;ng: back to when she was less than six months old. As she did, the tears that came to her eyes weren't as much sorrow as anger. "The least the driver could have done was stop and find out whose kitten it was and then tell us," she declared, forcefully. The plight of 5600 South is well known to Murray city officials. It carries a tremendous amount of traffic, including many who are not discreet about speed. Without a traffic light where it joins State, 56th South is difficult to get into or off of to begin with. It is then overburdened with traffic brought on by several public facilities and businesses. Cottonwood Maternity Hospital puts a strain on the road facilities alone since it is used fred doctors quently by the who practice there, the personnel of the hospital and by new parents and relatives. Over 1,500 births took place at Cottonwood in 1955. AMOUNTS IN PROPORTION 1 "Colleen was just thrilled to death when we first brought the kitten home. She mothered it N A L added a burden during schooldays and on Sundays. The LDS Stake Welfare offices have added traffic to 56th in the form of employees and those attending frequent meetings held there. Atop all this is the fact that the street is a main access road to housing developments both north and south of 5600. "It was a shame to lose the kitten," Mrs. Christensen pointed out after recounting reasons for 56th's heavy usage, "and it was terribly difficult to explain to Colleen. But behind all that is he constant fear that someday it won't be an animal that is hit !V a speeding driver, but a child instead." Her thoughts are echoed by many other residents along the street, who realize their plight is not peculiar to 56th South but is true of several other residential upon which thoroughfares thoughtless drivers go much too fast. ''We'd certainly like to see something done before we do have a serious accident or a death along here." they agree nnd their point is certainly I FINANCE COMPANY OF MURRAY In Telephone: AMhent Murray 4860 South State Street (Plenty of parking space in the rear) OTHER NATIONAL OFFICES In Salt In Lake City 21 East 2nd South Telephone : EL Ground Floor Sugarhoute Telephone: IN 2046 South 11th East In Telephone 6372 Magna 9013 West 2700 South CUSTOM PICTURE FRAMING COMPLETE HOBBY ARTIST'S SUPPLIES AND PRATT & LAMBERT PAINTS Thursday, August 30, 1956 Iat li day wishes and congratulations to "the following: Aug. 30, Melvln E.
