Twenty-year-ol- d George Ashley, the student, is residing at 4796 So. Redwood Road with Mrs. Mary P. Lindsay and her son, Kenneth Lindsay. He plana to enter Brigham Young University in fall term on a tuition scholarship. Mr. Lindsay and young Ashley were student and teacher at Lia-hocollege (high school) on Tongatapu, largest of the 106 islands that comprise the Tonga group in the South Pacific. Mr. Lindsay was filling a three-yeteaching mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-da- y Saints. As a teacher of English and the instructor in charge of the church school's athletic program, Mr. Lindsay became well acquainted with George's unusual intellectual endowments. George passed his government leaving examinations . . . the equivalent of a final comprehensive examination that qualifies a student for with the highest graduation marks ever recorded. At graduation time last November V. Coombs, then president of the Tonga mission, arranged for George to study at BYU. At the university he'll study trades and industry or vocational arts, preparing Himself to teach after his return to the islands. In the meantime, he faces a tough Job adjusting to his new life. Admitting he's "just a bit homesick", he points out that he was most struck by the faster pace of life here, the many automobiles and the large buildings. "Almost all the buildings in Tonga are still grass huts. We don't have many autos. And our buses are trucks with canvas coverings," he pointed out. Tonga is a British protec torate of about 50,000 population that follows an easy, feudal system of life. The island group forms one angle of a triangle with the Fiji islanda and Samoa. 167 MARYSVALE UTAH 1EE..0H First Tonganese Student Bound For American College Is Guest Here ar AIR CONDITIONERS an- camp 0ITH --v wm miic r U i mm si HEIV mm wm mm uuw niiiv Used styled with Food section Nw Stop!avr U oera y:; 5)'5 s5)7( O) 1 til i pius A KIT TDAnr.fM at easy reach in level. ..Giant roll out Freezer below Con- venience kteps the refrigerated foods uied most often up toplevel.
