Reid Bronson and Bruce Thayne were retained as patrol yaders, with Brent Horton as senior patrol leader, Don Johnson as scribe and Clark Thayne as junior assistant scoutmaster and leader of Bruce Thayne accompanied two TROOP NEWS scouts on their second class hike Paul Kuhni's troop and Troop 494 cooking expedition Saturday. They trekked into the "wilds of Cottonwood canyon". The troop lid its good turn by cleaning the scrap lumber out of the new Murray Third and Eighth ward chapel. The troop has 12 boys registered for the swimming course to start Saturday and last, but not least, the boys are working on Dick Wright's challenge for most awards this court. Bob Mash is the senior patrol leader of the troop. Max Lund-ber- g was made quartermaster. Patrol leaders are Perry Dye, Sammy Moore, Lynn Gaufin, Larry Bergen and Mike Adamson. Kent Gaufin is scribe and librarian and Lynn Nelson is buglar. Also receiving his insignia at the meeting was Asst. Scoutmaster Rex Life scout, climbing to the Eagle. The scouts had an excellent time at Grant ward last Saturday. They were taught to lash two spars together with ropes, cook over an open fire and to build shelters out of natural materials. The scouting spirit also was emphasized at the meeting. The boys, along with Lynn Smith, the assistant scoutmaster, really are working for merit badges for next court, Ed Norman, a troop committeeman, Is trying to keep up with his boys, Tad and Garr. Garr is looking forward to getting his Eagle next court. The troop Is planning a scrap paper drive Saturday.
