Xra Mt The following report to sugar beet growers of the south Utah district was released this week by J. Rex Mackay of Taylors ville, president of the Utah Su gar Beet Growers Assn. "I wish to brieflv ronort nn thi meetings with Utah-Idah- o Sugar ComDanv representatives and the results of our recent negotiations for the 1952 beet contracts. "It was agreed to operate un der the same favorable scale as has been in effect for the past several years. "It was agreed that the machine toD tare on beets in excess of three inches in diameter would be taken at straight cut, 62V of the largest diameter of the beet. This replaces the former method of hand trimming beets having a diameter in excess of four inches at a 32 degree angle. Beet growers of 1952 in this area will be permitted to purchase up to 100 pounds of dried beet pulp per ton of beets delivered to the Company at a price 10 under prices. In addition thev will be eiven preference on any excess du!o at a reallocation per growers at the prices. The meetings both on Murrh 11th and 12th. and acain March 25th, were very cooperative, and it was felt by everyone Dresent that the action of the Secretary of Agriculture in establishine a quota of 7,700,000 tons was very commendable; and the recent price increases appear to indicate that the Secretary intends to hold the quota until further price advances are adjusted. This action could result in erowers returns for 1952 beets in excess of $15.00 per ton. "In view of the declining trend of other farm commodities. we should do everything possible to increase beet planting for Btr BUk. Told ia A BOB HOPE is the country's leading expert on pies.
