Purchasers of the American Smelting and Refining Co. plant anticipate the site, being converted into manufacturing and industrial center, to be the scene of the employment of up to 2500 workers, a spokesman for the buyers said Thursday. The spokesman said it would take about four months to clear the site so new industries could begin moving in. It is expected that several firms will be on the center by spring. Two concerns, which already have agreed to take small sections of the industrial site wiH employ about 200 men, the spokesman said. Many other firms are interested and are awaiting final engineering drawings of the tract which now are being prepared. Some of the firms interested in the site have indicated considerably larger employment potential. The spokesman also said Thursday that the buyers' original plans to use some of the site for residential buildings have practically been discarded because of the large amount of interest in the site for industrial purposes. One of the chief reasons the site is being so well received is because of the of a labor supply, the spokesman pointed out. Another reason emphasized in attracting the firms to Murray was the easily accessible transportation and the vast areas near the site which are very suitable for residential centers. d ring veterans. however, the Smelterites, who were sparkplugged by Fullback Roy Jones, suddenly came to life. They appeared as if all at once they knew what they could do and went out to do it. And do it they did. Recovering a Judge fumble on the Bulldog line, Jones took a pitch out for a gain of five yards, then chalked up 23 yards on a wide end run. A few plays later, Norm Meyers knifed his way to pay dirt for the first tally of the game. Jones made the extra point 'on a line plunge. Murray's second touchdown also w;is paved with some beautiful running by Murray's and some nice blocking and openinu of holes by the line. The Smelterites, fresh from a brilliant 13 to 0 victory over the Judge Memorial eleven, defending state champions, will really dig in tonight to exhibit their prowess under th tutelage of Coach Davis. They are to spotlight Davis' ability as a coach. They'll be playing before Davis' hometown fans. Yes, back in 1943 Allan Davis quarterbacked the Payson Lions into a tie for the state championship. He also played first string for the Lions the previous year, his junior year. Tonight will be the first time the Payson fans have had an opportunity to see one of their former heroes with a football team in action. And a lot of action the Smelterites will have to show them, too, if they want to give Davis a very happy victory. The Lions last year were state B runners-uto Judge Memorial, but like ihe Bulldogs, the Lions can be beaten.
