A light lunch was served follow ing a business meeting. Mrs. Clyde Bennion was in charge of the meeting and helped Mrs. Lavigne with refreshments. Mrs. "MRS. Slides will also be shown by Mr. Christensen in connection with his talk.'X A special musical program is planned and refreshments will be served following the lecture. Ladies of both wards are urged to attend. Cottonwood stake will hold its quarterly conference in Murray First ward Saturday and Sunday, January 27 and 28, All meetings will be under the direction of the visiting general authorities and the conference is planned to emphasize the general Melchize-de- k priesthood. Meetings have been scheduled as follows. Saturday 6:30 to 7:55 p. m welfare meeting; 8 to 9:30 p. m., priesthood leadership. Sunday 9 to 10:20 a. m., priesthood meeting; 9 to 10:20 a. m., mothers' and daughters' meeting also; 10:30 a. m. to 12 noon and 7 to 9 p. m., general sessions. All those holding either the Melchizedek or the Aaronic priesthood are expected to attend the general priesthood session Sunday morning. All women 12 years of age and over are urged to attend the mothers' and daughters' session, to be held Sunday morning also. All meetings will be conducted under the direction of Elder Clifford E. Young, assistant to the Council of Twelve Apostles. The public is cordially invited to attend the two general sessions at 10:30 a.m. and 7 p. m., whether they are church members or not. The high school class in the Sunday school won' the banner with 225 credits. Sgt. and Mrs. Joseph Ledbetter were 6 o'clock dinner guests in the home of Rev. and Mrs. R. Emerson Snethen, 4750 Boxelder street, last Monday. Mrs. Ledbetter is recently from the Galilee Baptist church in Denver, Colo. Monday afternoon Rev, Snethen was calling in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Locker, 3134 South 3rd East. Mrs. Locker's nephew, a flying instructor in Florida, was killed in a crash last week. Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons Mr. Snethen was in lengthy conference with the Granite school nursery and Taylor Avenue Baptist church authorities concerning the use of the Taylor Avenue church building. Tuesday evening the Larger Parish Council, with representatives from the Rio Grande, Burlington, Magna, Taylor Avenue and Murray Baptist churches, met in the Burlington church Valenf.nd planned an tine social for February 12 from 7:30 to 10 p. m. Each church will look after the publicity within its area and provide two dozen sandwiches, two cakes and two bags of potato chips. Lt. Miss Marion Elizabeth Snethen is spending a few days visiting friends in Denver, Colo., but is expected to return Friday or Saturday. Rev. Snethen received word from his niece. Vera Tate, of the Waves, located in Brooklyn, N. Y., that her brother Bernard has returned to his home in St. Louis, Mo., after three years in Australia and the southern Pacific war area for an extended furloueh. The ladies' auxiliary of the Murrav BaDtist church held their monthly White Cross luncheon and work meeting in the vestry of the church on Thursday the 25th. A pleasant time was enjoyed pnd much work accomplished. ' The Sunday school conference of workers and officers will meet on Friday the 26th for a preview of the February international lessons. Supper will be served at 6:30 and Lt. C. M. of Camp Kearns will bring the preview. Services next Sunday include morning worship service at 10 in Murray and Sunday school at 11. Maw's $16,000,000 budget before them, 72 bills introduced in the senate and 68 in the house of representatives, the 26th session of the Utah state legislature completed its second week fully organized and ready to devote the remainder of the session to actual law making. Only one bill has reached the statute books thus far and that one provides for the increase in pay of legislators to the newly authorized constitutional limit of $300 per year. And speaking of pay increases, there are already pending bills increasing or authorizing increases for the salaries of all elective and the major appointive state officials, county officials, district attorneys, mayors and city commissioners. Representatives Selvoy J. Bov-e- r (D. Soringville) and H. H. Lunt (R, Cedar City) are the bigger pay advocptes in the house, while Senator Mitchell Melich (R, Moab) is the major sympathizer with underpaid officials in the senate.
