A. Rich to learn the fundamental physical standards of this nation's armed forces, consult their doctors and dentists to determine whether they conform to these standards, and to have remediable defects corrected prior to examination by local board physicians. Pointing out that such action by registrants would constitute a distinct service to their country and to the individual registrant, Major Rich said that the men could not, of course,, be expected to learn highly technical details of the standards. However, he assorted, they can acquaint themselves with the basic requirements and, upon consultation wih their own physicians or dentists, determine whether they are physically qualified according to the general standards. Although the local boards and the armed forces are the final judges of a registrant's fitness, Major Rich said that registrants would be able, by following the suggested course to make some determination of their chances of induction as physically fit without waiting to be called before a local board physician. Furthermore, he emphasized, men who learn they have physical defects and have remediable ones cor-rct.so as to qualify themst?lves for training will render patriotic service to their country and imHe prove their own health. said: Page roay be acceptable whose weight s loss than 105 pounds, or whose height is less than 60 indies or greater than 78 inches. 3. Mild degives of inflammation, squint, color blindness, and small operative sears do not necessarily disqualify. 4. Ear requirements: Hearing should be good in both ears, capable of detecting low conversational voice sounds at 20 feet in a quiet room. Hearing is considered acceptable if such sounds can be heard at 10 feet. 5.
