Show 23, 1937 SEPTEMBER THE MURRAY EAGLE, THURSDAY, Our local team Uand Commerce Take advantage of the marvelous Recreational facilities ' II I T MURRAY and BEAR RIVER TIE 0-- 0 Last Friday afternoon found many football minded sportsmen enjoying the first football game of the season for Murray High. Although the game was very rugged and slow, both teams displayed power and talent. Murray seemed to be able toholdthe line when the critical times came. For instance, here is a brief sumary of yards made: From the line of scrimmage, Murray earned 56 yards to 147 for Bear River. Bear River completed 6 passes for a total of 108 yards and 7 first downs to 1 first down for Murray and no completed passes. Murray was penalized 10 yards to 15 for Bear River, THE GAME PLAY BY PLAY Murray kicked to Bear River. They received the ball and returned to own forty yard line. Alter hitting the line twice for no gain, Bear River completed a beautiful pass to Murray's 26 yard line, for a first down. On the next play, Bear River tried another pass, but it was intercepted by Lee Wolrley on Murray's own 12 yard line and was returned to Murray's 49 yardline. Barney Evans hit off tackle for 2 yards, Call followed same play for 1 yard. Murray was then penalized 5 yards for using hands. On the third down, Call kicked a beautiful kick, sending the ball out of bounds on Bear River's IS yard line. Bear River hit left tackle for 3 yards. On the next play they tumbled the ball, losing 10 yards. On the next play they kicked out of bounds on Murray's 47. Wolffey dashed around left end for 6, Evans smashed the line two consecutive times for 5, for a first down on Bear River's 41 yard line. Once more Murray was penalized 5 yards, going back to 47. Wolfley tries incomplete pass, Wolfley again hit left end for 7, another incomplete pass. Call kicked to Bear River's 1 yard line, and they returned to own 9. Bear River takes the ball on own 9, hit off tackle for 1, tried again for no gain, and then kicked to own 48. Time out for Murray. Call hit line for 1. On the next play Murray fumbled and lost ball to Bear River on Bear's own 48. Bear completed a beautiful 14 yard pass to Murray's 38 yard line. Bear hit center for 1, passed for 6, hit line for no gain, and finally lost the ball to Murray on Murray's own 32. Mauffer ran out left end for 2 yard loss. Wolfley hit line for 3, folowed by punt by Call to Bears own 40. On the next play Bear River was penalized 15 yards, going back to own 25 yard line. Putnick slipped through the line and threw Bear River for another 4 yard loss to their own 21 yard line. Bears made a very nice kick, Murray being stopped on own 35. Wolfley again hit right end for 5 yards as the half ended. 2nd Half 32. Bears went left end for 2. kicked Bears to Murray 28 lateral for Completed yards, going down to Murray's pass 38. Bears hit left tackle for no gain, tried again and made 5. going to Murray's 28 yard line and making another first down. Bear River was driving hard down the field. Murray unable to hold them. Two more passes and the Bears were down to Murray's 18 and a first down. The Bears completed lateral pass to Murray's 11 yard line before the Murray line set themselves and refused to be moved, finally taking the ball on downs. Bear River was unable to push any closer to Murray's goiL Call kicked to own 45, ball being returned 10 yards to Murray's own 35. Bears hit left end for no gain, tried two incomplete passes, finally kicking to Call on Murray's 8 yard line. Call picked up ball and dashed to own 12 before being stopped. Call then kicked to own 45. Bears hit left end for 2, followed by a completed pass down to Murray's 28. The Bears were determined to score. They hit center for 5, dashed around right end for five more, going to Murray's 18 and a first down. Once more Putnick slips through the line and throws the Bears for a 10 yard loss. Bears had incomplete pass, then hit center for 10, coming back to Murray's 18 yard line with 1 down left and 10 yards to go. The Bears hit center for 7 yards, giving Murray the ball on their own 11 yard line. Imediately Call kicks to but the 28. ball the Bears returned to Murray's Once more the Bears were trying hard to score the winning touchdown, but once more Murray put up that famous last down stand. The Bears lateralled for 1 yard loss, incomplete pass, lateraled for another 3 yard loss, finally kicking to Morray's 10, Call returning to 15. Evans hit line for 1. Wolfley dashed around right end for five. Wolfley tried for a last pass, but the ball fell to the ground.
