The original agreement between the city officials and the gas company was what is spoken of as a "gentlemen's agreement". The agreement was that a reasonable franchise and business tax or fee was to be arrived at and paid. Nothing has ever been paid to the city by the gas company and it would seem that the "gentlemen's agreement" was made bv not very liberal gentlemen of the gas company, or it might even1. be hinted that the gas company had given Murray City the double cross, or even done a European war debt payment act.
