Show ' VOL IX i A YARD OF HEALTH THE ECONOMIES CLUB MEEK The Home Economics club held its regular meeting at the library building Monday evening, Mra. L. M. Robinson, president of the club, presiding. After the roll call and the reading of :the minutes by the ldent, MrsTMary Boyter, in the absence ot Mrs. Owen Grover, secretary, of the club, a splendid program was given. The following program was given. F. McShane gave to the club a. splendid and helpful talk on "What a Commercial Club Means to a Town'' and the need of one in this . . city. Ho told how the fine Carnegie library was obtained in this town through the commercial club that was In existance at that timo, stating that it was hard for an individu- al person to obtain these things, but by the means of an active business organization of some kind, it took very little time and effort He said the first thing we needed was a commercial club; next we need a" good live newspaper rone that Is made in our own home town, one that a man could afford to give all his time to in the city of Beaver. He was not finding fault with the present paper or its .management but he felt that tho business men of this city were not giving It the; rapport they, should.,; He said, "Look through the columns of your paper and note how many are carrying regular advertisements. ' Do -- make that paper, wlh business enough so that your manager can afford to live , In Beaver. Well "the commercial club can gt It for you." We need an Athletic club and need It badly, If we had an Athletic club and trained our boys in the right way, they would not crave the strong drinks, or want to smoke the cigarettes they are smoking. Boys that enjoy athletic sports, will give up most anything to keep in shape for these sports they enjoy so much. We need a Gun club, Why? because we have the best places in our surrounding country for fishing ana hunting. We would have some say in the fish and game laws that are made by the state, and we would have better chance to keep our beautiful streams Stocked with the trout and fish that are running . short in the ' stream." We need a band- -a band supported by the citizens of. this town. We cannot expect to maintain a band and not give it our support, when they have to .spend night patter night practicing. They must have money to buy their Instruments and music. He told how hard the people of Milford had tried to hire a good band to play for, them on Armistice day and were unable to find one. If ' we had had a good band, they could have played in Mil ford that day, We have tome of the best musicians and leaders In thlstown and we should , ""'"haV band."'
