The loss will amount to not less than 50. Manager T. B. Jones. Interviewed. Since mines are closing down throughout the country, rumors naturally circulate about the smel-ier- s closing down as a consequeuce. Manager T. R. Jones, of the Germania was seen by an Eagle reporter the other day with re spect to tho outlook. Mr. Jones, although not confident as to tho outcome, said his company would stick to it to the last. As long as they could get or they would run even though they made nothing. Mr. Jones looked at the situation as being very pnzzling and mysterious. He said that if the railroads would only make some concessions the smelters would be able to do so likewise and thus give the miner a little more for his ore. Tho miner is the one who is suffering and yet the whole business depends on him. There need bo no alarm as to the smelter running down, if ii doe not run full force it will run in proportion to the amount of ore that can be had. Societies. I-li- conse-queucebus-iuc- of sa 1 - Sheriff Lewis reported to the County Board yesterday on the petition of the citizens ef West Jordan pTecinct, who asked that a deputy sheriff be appointed to look after the tramps who congregate around Bingham Junction. The Sheriff said he could have Deputy. Sheriff Hanson make a daily tour of the Count' from Murray, where he is stationed, if the Commissioners would allow Hanson enough to pay for keeping a horse and buggy. It was accordingly ordered that Deputy Hanson be allowed $10 per month on condition that he visit Bingham Junction and nearby places, and look after the tramps and ether disorderly characters. The board received a petition from a number of the citizens of Union and Draper, asking that a public highway be opened between the two places. The petition was referred to Commissioner Rawlins for investigation aud report. Tho above is from the Tribune of yesterday and shows what care the Commisiioners are taking of us. They should read the Eagle and find out how we are pestered in this towm, thefts, burglaries, lifa and even housebreading is common. There very threatening is enough work here for threesher-iff- s right along and yet the only one we have is sent to patrol a district five miles from here! Just think of it! This town is overrun with tramps day and night, aud they have their own way about things. Why. people when they go home of nights literally stumble over the idle element. What has become of the promise of another sheriff for Murray? Better not try to kop that promise now. Why we can do without any sheriff at all.
