Jim Mallock, the center's transition specialist, and Larry Dawson, the transition manager, run the Transition Assistance Program. TAP, which was rated the best practice in Air Force Materiel Command, is designed "to mitigate the transition from the military to the civilian world," according to Dawson and Mallock. The three-da- y programs are held twice a month and are mandatory for any military member within 90 days of separation. TAP was instituted in the 1990s when the military drawdown began. It has been so popular for the Department of Defense and that Congress has been unable to drop the program. Currently, when military members sepcost-efficie- arate, the Department of Defense pays unemployment; however, since TAP began, military members have been seven times less likely to use unemployment More information on all programs is available at the Family Support Center, Bldg. 308N, or Hours are 7 a.m.-4:3- 0 by calling Ext p.m. weekdays. It isn't necessary to have access to the base, even though the service is available at the center. Besides receiving these recent technological improvements, the Employment Team has been busy improving its less technical programs as well. While the center has always had employment seminars, it begins holding them at night, as well as during the day, in September. Barbara Ferguson, Employment Assistance manager, hopes the new evening seminars will enable those witli daytime commitments to take advantage of the employment program. The evening seminars are Sept. and Dec. from p.m. The first evening includes instruction on resumes, job search and interviewing techniques. The second night is more specialized with the center bringing in employers that fit the interests of those attending the seminar.
