The fundamental purpose of the conservation program is to provide a means by which the public can share with land owners and operators the cost of carrying out needed conservation work over and above that which they would do with only their own resources. That was the announcement received recently from the A S C office in Beaver, Under the program, taxpayers, in the 15, May 15, Aug. 15, Oct. 15. form of federal aid, help pay County farmers attended educational meetings at Miners-vid- e, Jan. 5; South Milford A CllPKOni- clubhouse. Jan. 12; South Milford, Jan. 13; and Beaver, Jan. - Maybe that's part of the answer we ALL did those things. The whole family together; and we always met other families doing much the same thing. Ice skating together at night as a group, with a big fire out on the ice and we kids were always scared it was going to melt and we'd fall thru. Going fishing together, and sometimes several families would drive 15 or SO miles in a couple of wagons and bring home whole tubs full of fish. The menfolks going out at night, setting line in the creek to catch catfish all night, and the early squirrel shooting next morning, then the womenfolk came out later and cooked up a huge pot of squirrel stew for several families. Going cotton-tal- l hunting and then two families teaming up. for a delicious rabbit pie. Doing it together made it that much more interesting. We congratulated a Milford lady on the nice party she had for the kids during the holidays and she was surprised that we thought she had done something special. "Shucks." she said, "I didn't throw a party lor them THEY entertained ME." And she told how the kids had entertained themselves and the oldsters at the same time getting together for a songfest at the piano, Improvising duets and trios and everyone playing at once. Said she had more fun sitting back out of the way and watching those teen-kid- s enjoy themselves than at any adult party she'd been to In a Ions time. And when she opened the icebox did those kids eat!!! Maybe there's the , answer. Maybe we adults arc so busy with bridge games and lodges and clubs that we've lorgolten how to enjoy our own children.
