Without attempting to take any sides in an Intra congressional fight, I am enclosing for your interest a clipping from the Congressional Record, which rather clearly,, Indicates that press releases and even weekly news letters are considered frankable by the Postmaster General. Since it is legal to send such things under the frank. Senator. Bennett feels Justified in doing so, but he has also attempted to make it a matter of policy, particularly in recent months, not to send out material of a strictly partisan nature nor, to send out copies of speeches which he gives around the country. I remember from our conversation last summer that there had been some talk that Senator Bennett had bgen away from the Senate too frequently on speaking tours, and I am happy to point out that during the present session of Congress he has been out bf the city on but one short tour which he took during the Lincoln week holiday. He has only missed one record vote during. the whole session, and that was one which came up unexpectdly late one evening while he was home nursing a cold. This is .the third year he has led the delegation. I have digressed somewhat from the original intent of this letter, but I did want you to knojw that the Senaor is well aware of some abuses of the franking privilege, of which he hopes he is not unduly guilty, and is trying seriously to use his frank mail only for legiti mate and important government l- By Milford News MinersTlll Each Each f POST-HOL- E CANVAS COTS, FOLDING CAMP STOOLS, DIGGERS IRON TENT PEGS.' But we don't agree that all congressmen and are immune to such abuse. One Instance: We are informed on excellent authority that when a Beaver County resident was defeated for reelection to the Senate, it took our mail truck driver "many extra trips" from to Beaver to haul the "huge boxes" of lawbooks etc." which were shipped from Washington to Beaver, handled by many clerks along the way, and hauled by truck from Milford to Beaver 'all under a free mailing privilege and at taxpayers' ' expense.
