Last weekend, in the Utes' second game of the season against rival BYU, senior forward Mandie Little distinguished herself as one of the best role players on the team. She recorded a career-hig- h 22 points in the U's win over the Cougars, while grabbing five offensive rebounds which led to six second-chanc- e points. Even more remarkable than Little's impressive point total is the fact that Little scored her 22 points on shooting from the floor an incredible 90 percent for the night. As a reward for her excellent showing against BYU, Little was named the Mountain West Conference Player of the Week for the first time in her career. Never one to take a bad shot, Little is currently ranked fourth in field-goshooting percentage in the MWC. Her aggressive style of play is tough for opponents to handle, and she has a nice fadeaway shot that she regularly takes from about 6 feet. Known for stepping up when it counts, Little has emerged as one of the top players on this highly successful squad. According to U head coach Elaine Elliott, who refers to Little as a "bulldog," Little uses her aggressive style of play to win battles under the basket even when she is "undersized and outmanned." And despite not being the top player on the team, Little, who averages 7.5 points per game, almost always finds a way to get the job done. "She's not the go-t- o kid, so al ' a 1 $ V s ' . The writers for USA, however, didn't begin writing the bulk of their story until it was discovered that the accuser had the semen and pubic hair of two different men in her underwear when she was medically examined the night after the alleged incident. Their movie begins at a party, where the accuser and her boyfriend are in an intense argument She is accusing him of cheating on her, but he is clearly innocent based on his d charm. The confrontation ends with her slapping him and running off. Immediately, she calls another boy on her cell phone and minutes later he picks her up from the lawn of the party. She proceeds to seduce him in the back seat of his Mustang, and insists on having sex with him, despite the fact that he verbalizes his concern that she has a boyfriend. Kobe will be shown as the she has to make the most of the matchups she gets," Elliott said. "There are times when we need her to take advantage of different situations, and she does a great job of it." As an important part of the Utes' interior post game, Little is often relied upon to play defense against the opponents' best players. Considering that there are many fine big players in the MWC, Little has her hands full every week. "We need Mandie to defend well," Elliott said. "A lot of times, she will be assigned to cover if not the other team's best kid, then at least the other team's best big kid. level-heade- Sometimes she has to cover a small forward and sometimes she has to cover a center, so we ask her to do a lot of things defensively." "Mandie's role is huge," Elliott continued. "She plays an integral part in our post game, and the bottom line is that you can't win in this league without a good post game." Little's fine play is not always reflected in her stats, but her willingness to be aggressive in every situation has made her into a critical component of her team. She has led the team in rebounds six times this year, and a misunderstood, alienated athlete, who desires real contact with real people more than anything. Although his quick rise to fame has left him with questionable morals, he is starting to get his act together by the end of the movie. After the sexual encounter, Kobe and his accuser engage in some pillow talk, and then she leaves the room, dancing to the song "Walking on Sunshine." Later that night, she returns to her boyfriend's house, where they have sex and argue. She leaves raging mad, and then decides to involve Kobe in a scheme to make her boyfriend jealous. light-heart- night earned Lite tle her first of the year against Weber State in early December. A transfer student from BYU Idaho, Little has been making a difference ever since she arrived here three years ago, but only lately has her fine play earned her the accolades she deserves. As many know, banging the boards in the low post and playing intense defense are not exactly the path to fame and glory. "I love her aggressive style of play," Elliott said. Not only will USA have to pay Kobe and his accuser copious amounts of money for the movie rights, they will also have to pay the defense attorneys for the script. Such is the nature of this trial.
