Sure, you'd, have to L.- -. ... watch the bumps, like really watch the bumps and get a very lovely needle, but some of your favorite stuff isn't available on CD or cassette for that matter. What's a music lover to do? Well you can stop wiring that turntable to your mom's sedan because the latest release by Colorado indie-po- p mainstay Dressy Bessy, compiles all its early seven-inc- h releases and EPs on one nice and neat y vinyl format compact disc, appropriately titled Little Music. The first track on the compilation, "Live To Tell Air starts out with a simple bass line joined by drums, guitars, tambourine and vocals successively it's the proliferation of the indie-poe rebirth of psychedelic pop in all its glory. The involvement on guitar by Apples in Stereo member John Hill is apparent in the Dressy Bessy sound, but the lead vocals by Tammy Ealom add a signature quality. Rob Greene (bass) and Darren Albert (drums) round out the quartet It's all ear candy not that ear candy is a bad thing. Sometimes you need to let the music envelope you into a blissful state as a means of escape. Dressy Bessy's work has the potential to do just that if you let it. Despite the low number of instruments, the band fills each song with so much sound that you might not absorb it all oh first listen, from a bass fuzz that drones throughout a song or the acoustic guitar doubling the electric, it's a sugar-coatepill to swallow. Vivid "Ultra Color," "Fuzzy" and "2 My Question" utilize more distortion on the guitars than is typically associated with the '60s psychedelic bubblegum pop that they are recreating and adds a necessary modern element to the compositions as originals. Little Music is a good place to start if you're interested In the modern interpretation of a sound established close to four decades ago by the likes of Brian Wilson. 20th-centur- p '6os-styl- N f Retro Tech" (an officially sanc- tioned religion of Patten's own invention, based on the reappro-priatio- n and modification of past cultural objects and values). The newly weds mingle with the crowd, offering profuse gratitude for sharing in their expression of mutual devotion. Apparently a few romantically disinclined attendees will later ask for refunds for the show they came to see. The majority of the crowd, however, is patient.
