The people are friendly and the selection of new books is great, but my favorite part about Sam Weller's is the basement Descending down a flight of stairs world of fine literature and Just nifty another opens up books that you might have a hard time finding anywhere else; plus the books are used, so they're cheaper. The basement can make you feel at home, like your going through a relative's old stuff that they never mention but you find to be so intriguing. It might be difficult to find a parking spot downtown but there is a TRAX stop nearby. With ample parking on a laidback downtown street, Golden Braid shares its space with the Oasis Cafe. Golden Braid offers a great selection of books regarding Eastern religion and spirituality, as well as Eastern healing. The Native American spirituality section is decent, and the store is very inviting with lots of room to look around and explore. Golden Braid offers a lot of books that can assist one on a path of self reflection and alternative medicine or ways of thinking. You can check out the books and then grab lunch right t next door. t : . : ! t L ntU SAflDEftS BASS coosts 268 S. ?00 East Just like the name suggests, Ken Sanders' Rare Books carries a wide range of eclectic books that are hard to find or with a significant collection of books regarding the LDS religion and the state of Utah. Like the other local bookstores that offer a unique break from the corporate chains' blandness, owner Ken Sanders' unique quality is that he commands a thorough knowledge of his inventory. If you see a man with a large beard, ask him if he's Ken, and if it is him, say hello or ask him if he has any copies of The Thirtieth Annual Bastille Family Reunion by E. Richard Bastille it's a short read that chronicles the '70s in Utah that you never hear about, like radicals writing offensive messages on the mountain to welcome Tricky Dick to town. 1 i t, loured.com ?4 j august 29,2002 j BED Magazine Andrew Sevonius hangs out at Coffee Garden, enjoying his "favorite" drink and reading what's probably a competing paper. r .j t i |
