The pace of the Panorama Room is a pleasant change from the bustle of the other Chartwells-owne- d restaurants Campus food can be somewhat monotonous at times. One may, then, be surprised to learn there is a restaurant in the central part of campus that does not serve fast food. The Panorama Room is located at the top floor of the A. Ray Olpin University Union. It is somewhat of a double-edge- d sword that the best selling point of the restaurant is the location. It's ironic that in order for the restaurant to have its namesake view, it must be in a section of the union that receives low foot traffic. But lack of business is, strangely, a positive thing at least for the customers. At about 1 p.m. on a random weekday, the restaurant seems to be at 35 percent of its full capacity. This makes for a more intimate, comfortable meal. The diner doesn't feel below. The food is decent, and one pays a fair price for it. The restaurant serves a buffet for $6.50. as large as mat or the quality of the Panorama Room faod beats Chuck-o-ram- a hands down. This is achieved through the patience of the employees and also by a guy playing smooth tunes on the guitar. The acoustic music provides a pleasant, subtle ambiance. The instrument doesn't bring too much attention to itself. Musical ambience aside, the management at Chartwclls may want to consider refurbishing 42 51 64 ZiJch The clientele of the Panorama Room seems to consist mostly of university employees, all of whom appear to be over the age of 30. The older age of the customers makes sense when one thinks that, although the restaurant is affordable, it may still be too costly for the average college student. The few college students at the restaurant have shown up in pairs as lunch dates. 4 Child's me as. 22 20 Centennial ture msced by Cfcartvs&Us Food Service". "The best part of the meal is the deserts. The assortment consists of cheesecake, Snickers pie, pecan pie and apple pie. The Snickers pie and cheesecake are chilled nicely at just a little below room temperature, and are about as good as what one could find at one of Salt Lake City's downtown restaurants. The Panorama Room is a section of Chartwclls Food Service. The employees seem quick to serve and are dressed nicely. It appears that all the employees stay active, even when there is nothing to do. The manager also seems willing to get his hands in the work, playing an active role in running the restaurant rather than just dictating to employees.
