Whether or not you are willing to admit that will be a large factor in determining whether or not you will enjoy M. Night Shyamalan's latest chiller, "Unbreakable." This film succeeds in doing . D what unsuccessfully tried to do it makes you feel as though you are reading a comic book while you sit in the theater. techWhile this avant-gard- e deserves merit, nique definitely the extremely slow pace and the marginal directing of this film make it a great idea that, unfortunately, falls flat. David Dunn (Bruce Willis) is on his way home from a business trip when his train derails just outside of Philadelphia. Every person on this train is killed with the exception of Dunn. He walks away from this "X-Me- mind man? accident with no broken bones and not a scratch on his body. Seem like a miracle? It seemed so as well to Elijah Price (Samuel d L Jackson), the owner of Limited Edition an art gallery art. specializing in comic-booPrice was born severely afflicted with a bone disease which caused his bones to bresk at a touch. The only way he learned to cope with this crippling ailment was to lose himself in the stories on the pages of comic books. When he hears of the miraculous survivorof the derailed train, he becomes convinced that he has found his antithesis. He has found a man that is unbreak- Unfortunately, thisrilm was no "Sixth Sense." Where "Sixth Sense" was driving and suspense-fu- l, this film was filled with slow and repetitive scenes. But the parts that were not boring were utterly fascinating to watch. Jackson is a master at playing the cool and calculated character. In this film, he uses his physical weakness as an excuse for strength of character an oxymoron that only Jackson can make believable. able. Now, he just has to convince David Dunn of that fact. But Dunn is just a normal guy or so he thinks. He is a security guard at a local football stadium, and he is trying to revive his crumbling marriage I k by Ja ime Clark Willis a over's Dream c hard-edge- f&&Pl(.ff,,) It Brats i not quite the superhero image that Price suggests he must fill. But with the help of his son Joseph (Spencer Treat Clark) and his own growing sense of duty, Dunn discovers that he has powers far beyond that which he believed was possible. Willis, playing a cross between Superman and Savior, successfully portrays the extremism of goodness as his character . demands.
