The Ute pitcher struck out six, allowed only six hits, and blasted a solo home run which was the decisive hit of the ball game. The Utes 223 points placed them fifth overall behind SMU, BYU, Rice and Colorado State. Several Utah swimmers had key performances throughout the meet. Heidi Hausknecht, a junior transfer, placed second in the 100 fly. After placing second in the preliminary round with a time of 54.97, she took second in the finals with a time of 54.49. That was good enough to qualify for the upcoming NCAA Championships. Hausknecht also placed fourth in the 50 free with a time of 23.60. Also doing well was senior Molly Lauber who made history a season ago by becoming the first female Utah swimmer to qualify for NCAAs. Having already qualified again this season, she had little to prove. Nevertheless, she made her presence 3-- 2-- 1, 8-- 5. , Wichita State offered some exciten ment in its defeat, however. Threatening to score in the fourth inning, it was Utah outfielder Molly McLean throwing a bullet to home plate to nail a Wichita State runner.
