While he could' vc been a star starter for the Utcs, Pope went with the Wildcats, opting to play for a potential national championship contender. "I had to make a decision and I'm happy with the one I made," Pope says. "Coach Rick Majcrus is a great guy." Pope says Majerus and Kentucky Coach Rick Pitino have more similarities than most basketball fans realize, except for one difference: "The one thing I can tell you is that Majcrus eats a lot more," Pope joked. "Actually they have more in common than differences. Both arc extremely driven and have great basketball minds." Pope's role as a big man off the bench for the Wildcats is testament to Kentucky's impressive depth, according to Majcrus. "Pope would've been MVP of our league if he played for us," Majcrus said. "For them, he's a nice guy. For them, he's Utc substitute Doug Chapman." Tournament of Laughs Majcrus was his typical jocular self during Utah's tournament run.
