Over the last couple of years I have started to pay closer attention, and in just a short time I have discovered a lot about the yearly I have award ceremony. learned that when dealing with the Academy of Notion Picture Arts and Sciences, which is filled with a history of dirty politics, anything is possible, even the blackballing of some very deserving films. So when this year's Oscar nom- inations came rolling down from the mountain, it was no surprise that Hoop Dreams failed to receive a nomination for best documentary, and this snubbing left many of the film's fans crying foul. Let am a major supporter of Hoop Dreamaland me first say that I have the dubious distinction of being left out in the cold by fl 1 Examples of snubbing are found easily and often. It is no mistake, or Peter that coincidence, O'Toole has been nominated for best actor seven times, an Academy record, and never won.
