Of all the deaths which occurred during the historic voyage of the Brooklyn, hers was the only to be buried on land. Morgan is a direct descen-den- t. of the Goodwins. According to her father, Dale Goodwin of Alpine who has possession of the artwork, Morgan was going through a painful divorce at the time she painted the picture. She credits the painting with helping her focus on the problems of the early t 2 '- H - pioneers which seemed to make her own trials diminish in size. Morgan recently completed a companion picture of the cave r where she envisioned her ancestor was buried. Goodwin says he's tried locating the actual grave without success. The Juan Fernandez islands, located about 405 miles west of Santiago, Chile, are the same group of islands where Alexander Selkirk was shipwrecked in 1704. Selkirk's story became the basis for Daniel DeFoe's Robinson Crusoe. While on the islands, Isaac noticed natives feeding their goats a strange plant he hadn't seen before. He gathered the seeds and is credited with 4 Isaac Goodwin family, as they are portrayed sailing from Fernandez Islands. Juan the The being the first to introduce California, moved his family to Chilean alfalfa to the west Lehi. He was elected mayor of (Goodwin says a Swiss strain of Lehi in 1865, assigned to fill the plant had been introduced William Winn's mayoral post earlier by immigrants from after his resignation in 1874. and elected mavor again in Switzerland). Isaac eventually remarried 1875. He died April 25, 1879. and, after several years in Jennifer Jones. 272-- 96. ext. 7. Stoshops are scheduled on the third Saturday of 6738 to see informatior.
