Morrell and Carma of Springville will be celebrating 50 years of marriage on Sunday, Dec. 27, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Springville Stake Center, 245 S. 600 East. She worked at Sprouse Reitz in Springville for 17 years and was a campus aide at Springville High Morrell and Carma W. Dean School. She was a member of the singing group, The church. He is the oldest of 13 children born to Barnes Alma and Alice Adeline Southam Cook. He was raised in Cedar Fort. He attended school there and in Lehi. He worked in the gold mines at Mercur and in Montana. He retired after working at Tooele Army Depot for 33 years. He loved to ride horses and learned to fly small planes in his early 20's. Phyllis was born Feb. 16, 1919 in Bingham Canyon, the third of seven children born to David Daniel and Annie Pearl Loader Davis. She grew up and went to school in Lehi. However, she graduated from West High School iriSalt Lake City. She worked for 20 years as a cook, mostly in rest homes. She very much loved this work and the people she served. Today she still likes to bake cinnamon rolls and chocolate chip cookies for her family. Sheldon and Phyllis were married Nov. 17, 1939 in Salt Lake City. They have lived in Mercur, Lehi, Cedar Fort, American Fork, and now live in Orem. Both have been active in the LDS Church, serving in many capacities, including working at the Provo Temple for many years. Phyllis has been a visiting teacher for 55 years. They have loved to dance and raise flowers together. They raised six children: Ronald (Bonnie Ross), American Fork; Loran (Doris Smith), Orem; Patricia Cook, Albuquerque, N.M.; Kathleen Idaho (Gary) McFadden, Sherwood Falls, Idaho; Las (Lynette Broadbent), Vegas, Nev.; and Gary (Ellen Griffith), Castle Rock, Colo. Today they have 25 grandchildren and 26 Even though Sheldon has had both knees replaced within the past three years and Phyllis has had both hips replaced within the past five years, they are still able to take care of themselves and each other.
