Show Lehi Free Press New Utah! - Wednesday, October 14, 1998 - Page 8 1 Oodles of creepy, crawly, scary things qt Halloween haunts throughout area By Brian Brinkerhoff Outdoors Correspondent A bright October moon rises above the Wasatch Mountains and crickets sing their final summer songs while, lurking in the shadows, fiendish creatures await unsuspecting visitors at our many local haunted houses and forests. Volunteer panelists recently evaluated several haunts, to help Halloween determine the best locations to visit this season. Panelists strongly recommend visiting haunts early in the week to reduce your wait in line and improve your overall fun-seeke- rs haunted experience. Frightmares at Lagoon Rating: BEST OVERALL EXPERIENCE, BEST FOR and BEST FAMILIES, VALUE Frightmares provides an excellent spook alley for children under age 8 and two well produced haunted locations for older audiences (you can go to each of these haunts twice with gate admission). The children's "Spook a Boo Walk Thru" offers safe treats for children and safety tips for the Halloween season. Absent are the chain saws, found at almost all other locations. Along with the haunted events, Lagoon also provides musical Halloween entertainment for the whole family, the rides Lagoon is famous for, and games. This overall event is reminiscent of the great fall carnivals of yesteryear. Individuals desiring greater thrills and excitement can also (for an additional charge) experience the terror of falling 150 feet on Lagoon's Skycoaster. Guests may also race (reaching speeds of 70 m.p.h. within seconds) in Lagoon's drag racing cars.
