LaVar and Renee Houghton Grace celebrated their golden wedding anniversary at a family get together hosted by their children on Saturday, Sept. 7, at their home in Lehi. They were married Sept. 11, 1946 in Lehi, built a home and have resided there ever since. LaVar served in the Army in World War II and retired from General Refractories. Renee was at employed Pykettes and Baileys for many years. They enjoy camping, fishing and wood working. They have spent many winters in Quartzite, Ariz. LaVar enjoys gardening and has kept a beautiful yard and garden all his life. Renee enjoys craft work and is an experienced artist and cake decorator. The prospective groom is the son of Candace Vacher "r Rhoades of Pleasant Grove and Carl Rhoades of Arizona. A reception will honor them ' that same evening from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Lehi North Stake recreation property, 10490 N. 8000 West, Lehi. Honored guests will include grandparents of the bride, Victor Hearing clinic Thursday; flu shots and driving course slated Hearing clinic Sr. Citizen News The monthly hearing clinic w;ll be held on Thursday, Sept. 19 from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. There is no charge and no appointment is necessary. Fall Foliage Tour Seniors participating in the Fall Foliage Tour are reminded that the bus will depart the Senior Center on Tuesday, Sept. 24 at 8:30 a m. The center will be closed on that day because of the trip. Reservations and payment must be made by Friday, Oct. 4. The bus will depart the center at 7 p.m. Seniors are encouraged to call for reservations early. 55 Alive Driving Course A course for mature drivers will from S a.m. be offered Oct. until noon each day. Successful completion of the class often means a savings on auto Flu shots Flu shots will be offered on Monday, Oct. 7 from 9 a.m. until noon at the center. Cost for the shots will be $7, but if everyone brings a Medicare card, everyone will be reimbursed. The clinic is open to all seniors, as well as any members of the community who are considered to be "at risk." 'Pneumonia shots will also be available at a cost of $14 each. Pneumonia shots are only necessary once in a lifetime, unless a doctor orders a repeat shot for special health conditions. Cedar Hills Drive. All friends, neighbors and family are invited to attend. There will be a program at 7:45, when Owen's niece will sing a medley of love songs from the good old days. Owen R. Porter of Escalante married Leola Green of Thatcher, Ariz, on Sept. 23 at Gallup, N.M. The marriage was later solemnized in the Mesa, Arizona LDS Temple. Owen served in the Navy for two years in World War II. He graduated from BYU and taught for 30 years in the Alpine School District, retiring in June 1983. Leola was a teletype and telefor Pacific operator phone Telephone and Telegraph and for Mountain Bell. She works for Sears, Montgomery Ward, J.C. Tenney and Sprouse Reitz. She also worked as a PBX operator at hotels. Owen has held positions in the LDS Church, in the branch presidency of the Gallup Branch, Elders quorum president, ward clerk, scoutmaster, high priest group leader and others. He has also served in civic positions such as the Lions Club president and library advisor. He served 34 years as a member of the credit committee at Alpine Credit Union. He currently spends some time playing golf and pool and working November. The trio have made a quilt that will be given away in a drawing. Tickets will be available at the next on two home football games Friday, Sept. 13 and Wednesday, and the winner will be Sept. 25 i - Wr 'Writ Melissa Ilolcomb, Christopher Tibi Melissa Holcomb to be wed to Christopher Tibi and Melissa M. Holcomb Christopher Michael Tibi have chosen to wed at the top of Sugarloaf in Alta on Sept. 19. is the daughter The bride-to-b- e of Marsha Holcomb of Lehi and Michael Holcomb of Salt Lake City. The prospective groom is the son of Bob Tibi of Salt Lake City and Ronnie Tibi of Boulder, Colo. A reception will honor them at Owen and Leola Porter in his wood shop. Leola has served in many teaching positions in the Relief Society, Primary and Sunday School. She has been a visiting teacher for 45 years. She loves to paint, using oils and water colors. Her hobbies have always been flowers and herbs. She spends many hours gardening and with her house plants. They have both served two LDS missions, one year in the Virginia Roanoke Mission, at the unemployment office in American Fork, and are presently serving a mission in the Family Research Center at BYU. The Porters are the parents of three children: Peggy (Jeff) Morrill, Neva (Dennis) Sorenson, and Shawn Owen. They have six grandchildren. Quilt drawing at Wednesday game Three members of the Lehi Pionettes will be going to New York City to participate in the Macy's Day parade in Thanksgiving ' announced at the latter game. The quilt will be displayed at the games. Suggested donation for the tickets is $1 each or six for $5. The winner does not need to be present to the Alta Lodge. The couple will make their first home in Alta. Community Education classes to start Tuesday, September 24 Area residents are reminded Education classes will begin Tuesday, Sept. 24. Among the several classes that are offered is a series of classes on preserving life's memories, from fishing trips with dad to new outfits for Easter and family reunions. The classes include the following: that Community Scrapbook Beginning This class will focus on page will layout and participants receive many ideas for baby pages, holiday themes, etc. The class is a springboard for creative ideas, where students will be asked to share ideas and learn from others. Participants should bring eight to 10 recent photos of a similar event. Scrapbook: Creative Lettering Use creative lettering and updated products to tell the story behind the pictures. This class starts Tuesday, Oct. 8. Sticker Art Learn the very latest scrapbook techniques and how to interact stickers. Students should bring their own photo album to work on and will make a gift bag, book mark and gift card. This class starts Thursday, Oct. 17. Stamping and Card Making Make your own birthday, wedding and shower cards. Students will learn braying, a tool printers use, as well as stamping without rubber stamps. A second class will feature embossing and pop-u- p cards, and the third class will cover layering, shading and making your own Christmas cards.
