By ROD MANTOR The Lehi varsity basketball team season last opened up the week at Pleasant Grove. Some obvious observations were apparent. Jason Allan is the only returningstarter and the other four have seen very little floor time. However the team looked quite confident out there and for the most part they played well as a unit. Last year's PG game may have been one of the best games ever, goinginto double overtime and ending with a one point victory for the Pioneers. The Vikings probably had that in mind as they came out with a full court press and stayed there most of the contest. Lehi handled that pressure and did not seem to be rattled. The Pioneers were in trouble after the first seven minutes when starting center Lance Magnusson drew two fouls and had to be taken out. Both teams played a physical '94-'9- 5 ?. n ; 7&od Lehi vs. Delta. Senior started Jason Allan hammered in 28 points and the Pioneers fought down to the last second, but ended up short by two, when the Delta Rabbits came to PG 13. The second quarter looked like a run away as the Vikings led by 10, but Lehi forced a couple of turn overs on a steal by Mike Gray and Cutis Jacobson. Jason Allan who looked great, kept the points coming and the Pioneers came with in six at the half. LHS 24 PG 30. 54-5- start as their shooting was stone cold and the Delta defense pressured them some what. The Pioneers got a couple of fast breaks going and turned the game around. They were tied at the half. The second half was quite eventful. Mike Gray forced a couple of turnovers, Jason Allan had the hot hand, the defense came on strong, a couple of blocked shots and Lehi had the lead going into the final quarter. However as in most close games, the momentum swings and unfortunately for the Pioneers it was Parry's Power Guide to High School Basketball By Noland Parry Week of Nov. 28-De- c. 1 Difference Wed., Nov. 30 9.6 05.9 99.8 Am. """ Lehi has always been an arch rival with American Fork until recently. This past month American Fork and Lehi had some of their ninth grade football players join forces to put up some very impressive wins against some large schools. Obviously the team played well, but the Pioneers still have to work on making their shots drop. Wilson said, "We shot 32 percent at Pleasant Grove and we shot 38 percent here. Our free throw percentage was not much better. We have a bunch of good ball players who just were not making the going the other way as Delta closed the gap. Lehi hung in there, as they always do. Lance Magnusson made a shot under neath that would have put Lehi up but was called for pushing off (something a lot of the coaches and crowd did not see.) Lehi had one final chance when Jason Allan hit a three pointed from the corner. Lehi's defense turned the ball back over, but time ran out as they reached the front court. Question: Why did Lehi not call time out and set up at mid court ? shots."
