You wouldn't have believe it. After a full seven innings of back and forth battle, go ahead, fall behind and tied again; they were all i 12 Page 768-894- 0 GEO even. American Fork took the lead in Lehi came back the first inning to tie it up when Mike Gray's single broughtMike Schneider home. Lehi had a great opportunity with bases loaded but had to settle for one. Inning two: the Cavemen scored two more and Lehi went down Curtis Jacobsen and Don Worthington hammered in three RBIs in the third and Lehi took a 3 lead into the fourth and AF tied it up once again. AF was making an attempt to go ahead when Curtis Jacobsen picked a line drive off his shoe top and Mike Gray stretched an extra few inches to stop the threat. On and on it wen t until game time, where they were tied Darkness was threatening and all parties agreed, one more inning. Needless to say, American Fork is a very good ball club with a winning record and a long history of tradition. R, Girls fastpitch headed to nationals freshmen and sophomores. They are coached by Ken Nickell and Bill West of Pleasant Grove and Dale The Rebels, a team of 11 Utah Valley girls age 16 and under, have already played 33 games and 4 tournaments as they prepare for the Dibb of Alpine. Their record is 23-1- 0 and as a team they have improved with each game. They placed fourth in the Clinton IceBreakerTournamenton May 30, second in the Golden Spike Tournament on June 11, first in the Brigham City Tournament on June 18, and second in the Utah Summer Games on June 21. Both Summer Games losses were d contests by one point in overtime including a American Softball Association (ASA) or American Fastpitch Association (AFA) Nationals in August. The Rebel organization has existed since 1985. It has sent teams to the Nation al ASA Tourn ament in 1985 and 1987. At least six Rebel players have recived scholarship offers and four have gone on to play college ball. In 1992, they won gold medals at Utah Summer Games for and in 1993 placed second in ASA State for Utah and fourth in well-playe- game. Theremainingscheduleincludes the Art City Classic in Springvilk, ASA Utah State TournaJuly ASA Regionals in ment, July and the Aurora, Colo., July ASA National Tournament at Kansas City, Kansas if they finish lower than first in Reeionals. Regionals for 8-- This year's Rebel players come from Provo, Orem, Alpine, Lehi and Pleasant Grove. All are exceptional athletes who have played on their respective high school teams as The Rebel's 1994 schedule is very demanding and the efforts of the athletes and coaches has risen to meet these demands. This team has represented themselves, their families and their communities very well. their goal of going to Regionals and Nationals, $6,000 for travel, lodging, food and tournament fees must be raised. The girls are working at part time jobs and fundraisers to raise themoney needed. However, donations from other people who would like to see the girls succeed will be accepted and appreciated. ( ; 785-348- 15-1- 29-3- Five Lehians to join team for Disney Cup Five Lehi athletes will be playing with the Utah Soccer Academy at the Disney Youth Soccer Cup in Pasadena, Calif. July Steve McMurdie, Jared Hafen, Neil Rasmussen, Nate Young and Dustin Bassett will join a group of Utah County players for the competition which will include 32 teams from countries like Australia, Brazil, Chile, Hungary, Italy, Russia, Taiwan, Japan, Canada, Mexico and Spain. The team, nicknamed the JD Kickers, will play in the Under-1bracket and will be coached by J.D. Dusara, and includes players from Orem, Provo, American Fork, Springville and Payson. North County soccer team wins silver medal at Summer Games The team consisted of the following players: Phillip Adamson, Darin Adams, Gregg Sorensen, Mark Christensen, Ti.n Oswald, Josh Beck, Jeremy Spence, Michael Davis, Danny Davis, Garrett Davis, Danny Anderson, Kevin Maynard, JoeNielsen.Ben Grimley, Jon Hafen, Gary Bezzant, Steve Vicchrilli. They are coached by Michael Corbett. The North Utah County Arsenal Strikers, an under-1- 6 boys soccer team with players from Lehi, Highland, American Fork and Cedar Hills, participated in the Utah Summer Games and came away with the silver medal in a field of 16 teams from around the state. They defeated teams from St. George, Cache Valley, Sandy and Olympus. ..... .V ' two-ru- n Curtis Jacobsen grounded out, Matt Felix flew out and Mike Gray went to a full count. "This game is over, let's go," one spectator said. Somebody who has been covering these guys all year fired back, "No, it's not over, it's never over with these guys". Mike Gray singled into center field, Jason Allan doubled bringing Gray home; Lehi 8, AF 9. Travis Neil took a count and slammed a triple to the fence line, Allan scored; Lehi 9, AF 9. The next pitch was a passed ball and Neil made a desperate head long dive for home plate. There was a collision and the dust blocked out everything and after what seemed to be minutes we all heard: "Safe, he's safe!" Lehi 10, AF 9. This was not only an incredible contest between two giants of baseball, but we all witnessed a couple of organizations who displayed some real class.
