By ROD MANTOR If you attended last Thursday's game at LHS you saw some very interesting turn of events as the Lehi men's varsity basketball team won it's second overtime game this month, beating Springville 68 to 65. It was interesting to see the Pioneers come out in the first quarter and play as flat as they possibly could. They scored six points in the first quarter and eleven in the second, trailing 17 to 29 at the half. And it wasn't that they played so badly, as much as their shooting just dropped off. It would have been very inter-- , wv esting to know what coach Chad Wilson said at half time. Maybe he didn't say anything, maybe he just slapped them around a little. I don't know. It was interesting to see the Pioneers come out and play the third quarter, which has been their worst quarter throughout the season. They came out kicking and snorting and before you could even think about what Lehi was about to do it was done. They scored 25 points and led at the end of three 42 to 41. Then things became real interesting as Lehi got a raft of questionable calls against them and soon found they were into overtime without three starters. Jason Allan who took a terrible spill in the first quarter was out for the game, Lane Andrus and Terry Radick had fouled out. Interesting situation here. Now it was up to the backup team to try to pull this out and they did . Coming off the bench Greg Adamson scored seven, Justin Jex and Lance Magnusson scored two. Credit too belongs to Jeff Rush ton who scored 10 and played good defensive as did Wyatt Cutler. And perhaps the game ball should have gone to Brian Dibb who carried the scoring with 19. It was interesting to see this team get their back to the wall and pull together as a collective unit. Interesting to witness the character and determination ofthis bunch of Pioneers. Very interesting. mfM Ijt ! i 4 Week of Jan Fav. Team h hi J f ,- t n.u. Coach Evans had this explanation, "Some of the guys are out on the injured list and some were invited not to return under the circumstance. That being, if you cannot give a 100 percentthen Ihavetogive someone who is willing, that chance. Enough said." Exceptional performances were given by Rob Peterson, (who is a dislocated elbow) Russ Beacher, Brandon Worthen, Lance Ferguson and Nate Nelson. Considering the fact that the tean is now mostly underclassmen, Lehi did quite well. Coach Evans said, "I look forward to the great things that these young men will accomplish in the future."
