Show Citizen, Press, Review - Wed., Sept. 29, 1993 Lehi father of three needs transplant Phillip Hobbs, 37, had not been feeling well for months. His doctor said it was "nothing serious," that his fatigue and nagging cough were caused by bronchitis and should be cleared up by an and cough medicine. antibiotic " In early August, he awoke with pains in his chest; an EKG revealed that he was suffering from severe heart failure and that he would need a transplant to survive. Phillip and his wife, Elizabeth, were shocked. He had planned to retire after his 30 years as a custodian at Northridge Elementary in Orem, when they would move back to southern Indiana to build the cabin they'd been dreamingof since moving to Utah 14 years ago. A social worker at LDS Hospital said that the facility has one of the best heart transplant teams in the world, with an 82 percent survival rate after five years. The representative told the couple that the hospital required a $115,000 deposit before Phillip's name could be added to the list. Fortunately.hisinsurancecompany agreed to pay $75,000 toward that cost. Since his condition continues to f y Hospital, Deseret Foundation, Phillip Hobbs Fund, 8th Avenue and C Street, Salt Lake City, UT 84143. Checks should be made out to the Deseret Foundation.
