Show Free Press - Wednesday, August 25, 1993 - Page 12 Meet the Team well-supporte- d By ROD MANTOR Well over 200 patrons of the Lehi community came out last Saturday night to meet the athletic teams for the fall season. There were tributes paid to the following teams: girls' soccer, who seaare already this son; girls' volleyball, who are looking physically strong. The five member golf club; one member of the cross country team; and the girls' tennis team, which has compiled a record 26-- overall. The varsity and junior varsity football teams were introduced and later the varsity seniors scrimmaged the varsity juniors. It was a match. The LHS cheerleaders ( who just placed third in state competition ) set the spirit of the rally, along with a pretty snappy drill team. Summer is over. Baseball is over. LHS is prepped to meet cross town rival like to beat American Fork in our opener, somethingwehaven'tdone in 20 years. Football is the game. It demands the greatest effort in physical and mental strength. Perhaps one of the most demanding of team sports in that every player must complete his assignment in order for the play to be successful Head coach Jeff Kilts made some observations about thisyear's team. The new alignment: " This will be to our advantage, especially when we get into the playoffs." Game plan: " Basically the same as last year, we had 2,000 yards rushing and 2,000 yards passing. So, we are looking for a balanced attack." Lehi plays at American Fork this Friday, Aug. 27 at 7:00 p.m. J unior Varsity at Lehi on Thursday at 4 p.m. Time: 12noon to 5pm Sat. Special teams: "We will be strong here, we have some returning players, although we haven't chosen a punter yet." Lines: "We expect our lines to be outstanding this year, they are big and strong." Weakness: "One thing that's tough is the fact that last year we had fifteen returning starters, this year only five. But I'll tell you we are going to be a good team. These guys have a great attitude and they are anxious to play football." Final Comment:" We sure would t Girls' tennis beats Grantsville For the first time in two years, the girls tennis team at Lehi High School beat the team from Grantsville in their first match last Thursday. The girls team has only lost two matches in the last two years, both to Grantsville; the recent win may be an omen for a great season. Their goal is not only to repeat a region championship, but to take state. Individual winners included Cristal Downs, first place in singles and Colette Urry, third place. Doubles partners Krista Smith and Kari Peterson also placed first. Other team members include Jodi Wilson, Mandy Hadfield and Rachel Bailey. Spanish Fork will play at Lehi today (Wednesday) at 3:30 and Lehi will play at Park City on Th ursday, Aug. 26 at the same time. Flag football sign-up- s Lehi City Youth Flag Football signups will be held Aug. 31, Sept. 2, and Sept. 8 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Lehi City Library.
