Devoted musician honored The family of Evelyn Barnes Slater would like to in vite all friends and relatives to honor her on her 80th birthday at an open house to be held Saturday, April 24 from p.m. at the Lehi Senior Citizen Center, 120 N. Center St., Lehi. The family requests no gifts. Evelyn was born April 25, 1913 to Joseph and Azalia Barnes. She married Charles Slater, who passed away in 1990. Their children are Colleen Calton, Lehi; Uvonna Duvall, Pleasant Grove; Marilyn London, North Ogden; and a stepson, Wayne Nelson, Redding, Calif; 15 grandchildren, 33 and 10 Evelyn attended Lehi schools and the Lehi Third Ward in her early years. When she was 15, her father furnished the music for ward dances, she playing the piano and her father playing the banjo. Attending the bride will be Michelle Worlton as maid of honor, with W. with Carter's Orchestra, an activity she enjoyed very much. This was the beginning of her musical talent which she shared for many years in several church positions. Evelyn taught piano lessons for over 25 years to many students in the area. Wherever she goes, she can see the fruits of her abors with students who have excelled. One of those students, Russell Daly, will furnish music for the open house. The tour to the Cathedra of the Madeleine for Lehi Seniors has been postponed due to scheduling difficulties. Not only did the number of participants exceed expectations, but church officials are having trouble finding times when the building isn't being used for services, as well as providing experienced tour conductors. Additional work is also being completed on the organ. As soon as a firm date is obtained, the Lehi Seniors' visit to the cathedral will be rescheduled.
