"I need a new jail as soon as one can be built, hopefully before a federal judge forces the issue as has happened in someother Utah counties." He said the county has received the results of a study done by jail consultants which indicates the need for a new jail. The jail advisory committee, comprised of private citizens, business people and governmental leaders, has recommended that the county construct a facility to house 300 inmates on opening and be expandable to 600 over the next ten to 20 years. The sheriff said an architectural firm has been hired to prepare some preliminary sketches and cost figures for the county to study. The county has also been working to acquire land suitable for a new jail and hopes to have word soon on that part of the project.
