West Off Road Supply wins Elko Invitational Fast Pitch Tourney Pleasant Grove League Lake City was the team Mountain West played for championship honors. Fastpitch Softball is being recognized as a mecca of great fastpitch softball teams. One of the reasons is one of its teams, Mountain West Off Road Supply has recently won two major fastpitch tournaments. The team is currently leading the Pleasant Grove League and brought further recognition to local sports by bringinghome the championship trophy from the prestigious Elko Invitational. Twelve teams battled for the huge trophy, including players from Nevada and Utah. The Tuff Country Predators, the Alpine Classic Champs from Salt 4-- 2 wasn't decided until right fielder, Shaner Barnes caught a fly to right field and caught Tuff Country's runner at the plate for the final out. Named to the Team were: Bob Barnes, Don Hadfield, with Howard Cooper receiving Most Valuable Pitcher honors and Wendell Zink being named Most Valuable Player of the tournament. Zink got a homer to put the game into extra innings. He hit eight home runs in the tournament. Zink also won MVP honors in the recent A versatile pi ayer , "Bateman can play any position on the field,"brags manager Barnes.Other secrets of the team's success are the hurling capabilities of their pitching corps: Howard Cooper, Bob Barnes, and Ginn Barnes. Playercoach, Marlin Barnes takes the mound on occasion as does Rod White. Mountain Westhas also received an invitation to play in a playoff in Salt Lake City with the winner receiving a berth in the ISC World at the CotTournament July tonwood Complex in Salt LakeCity. 18-1- class will run one hour; time of class will be determined at registration; class size will beheld at 10-1- 2 boys per class. Only one class may be selected from the following; Aquanaut, Swimming Merit Badge, or Life includes Saving Merit Badge CPR. Leaders must attend class time with their troop or den. (Be prepared to get in the water with your boys.) Any discipline probleems, the boys will be asked to leave. 1 J. 9 Official Scout Swim registration The first registration for the official Scout Swim was held yesterday at the Lehi LDS Stake Center. Another registration will be held Tuesday, July 14 from 7 to 9 p.m. Cost is $4. Anyone registering late will not be accepted. Please register as a troop or den with your leader. Leaders must attend with their troop or den. Scout Swim dates are Aug. 8 and 15 for Block 1. Block 2 will swim Aug. 22 and 29. The poo cannot supply snorkels and fins, each troop will have to supply their own. Blue Cards will be handled to the Scout leaders, for their boys, the last day of class. We are calling Merit Badge counselors to help with passing off requirements and signingblue cards. Do not bother pool instructors with signing blue cards. They are there to help the counselors. Enter quilts in Pioneer Day Quilt Contest on July 22nd The third annual Pioneer Day Celebration will again feature a quilt show and contest as part of rangements are made. Quilts that have been displayed in this show in previous years will not be eligible. Antique quilts will be for display only; unusual quilts may or may not receive awards based on judges' discretion. Awards will be given in the fol- the activities. Entries must be submitted at the Lehi High School lunchroom between noon and 6 p.m on Wednesday, July 22. Judging will take place at6p.m. Any quilts brought in after 6 p.m. will not be judged but will be displayed if space is available.
