Show Lehi soccer gets B3I?GS downed by Jordan in first round By DAN WILSON In the first round of the 1992 3A soccer state championship playoffs, the Lehi High School team cut their season short as they were tripped up by a "very physical" Jordan team . The win for the Beetdiggers advanced them in to the second round, and ended the LHS season quite abruptly. The Pioneers kickers qualified for state competition when they took second place in region competition, finishing just one half game behind Wasatch. Jordan came out with a variety of shots, but "they only shot one good shot all day, and it just happened to go in," commented head coach Mike Corbett. The Pioneer team did have a chance in the final five minutes of the game when two Jordan players were given "red cards." Red cards are submitted to disruptive players and kick the players out of the remainder of the game (they can't be replaced), and also they cannot participate in the following game. In the last five minutes, Lehi had a goal called back as they attempted a toss in, but the ball penetrated the goal without being touched by an inbound player. The game and LHS season came to a sudden halt as the referee blew his whistle three times to signal the end of the game. "We played an excellent game," claimed Corbett, "But they just had a good shot on us." The Jordan team played a very physical game, but the Lehi defense played well to hold off any other Beetdigger points. The young team only losses four seniors who will be honored at an awards banquet next week. An amazing 20 juniors will advance to seniors for the '93 team, and several "good sophomores are coming up," commented Corbett. LHS soccer put another winning year in the books as they chalked up 11 wins to just four losses. ARE YOU A CANDIDATE FOR OSTEOPOROSIS? . While all post menopausal women are at risk for osteoporosis, some women stand an even greater chance of being affected. For example, it is known that women with a family history of the problem are much more likely to suffer from osteoporosis. Ethnicity, too, seems to influence bone loss; women of African, Hispanic and Mediterranean origin are less likely to suffer debilitating bone loss than are Northern European or Asian females. Women who are petite have less bone mass to begin with and so suffer the effects of bone thinning more quickly than do larger women. In fact, this may be the one instance in which overweight has a positive effect on health. Obese women almost never get osteoporosis because of their greater ability for estrogen production. Similarly, women who have been pregnant are less susceptible to osteoporosis than are those who have never had children. Finally, both drinking and smoking increase the risk of developing the condition. The good news, however, is that even with one or more strikes against you, osteoporosis is preventable. Your chiropractor can provide you with excellent advice on maintaining bone health. responsibility. (Courtesy of: Pleasant Grove Spinal Touch Clinic, Dr. Bryon L.
