Show Free Press - Wednesday, January 23, 1991 - Page 12 Jayvees surprise Uintah, lr" Wasatch on road Lehi's junior varsity boys' basketball team displayed the finest offensive output of the 1990-9season last week as they literally ran past, over and around hapless Uintah and Wasatch in their gymnasiums to win by 39 and 18 points. Against the Utes, every young Pioneer played and all but one scored. Because of the fast start, 16-- 8 at the quarter, coach Cloyd Atwood went early tohis bench and they didn't disappoint him. Leading the Lehi point parade was Matt Ekins with seven field goals and four of six from the line, fiut right behind him was Joe Mattson with 13 on five from outside and three of four from the stripe. That was the double figure scoring, but Scott Hampton -- 4 1 i . - j r); ff f H' - I ' i W J free-thro- w added seven, followed by Todd Childs and Jeremy Hyde chipped in five each. Seven other Pioneers added to the Lehi total. At Wasatch things were a little tighter as the junior Wasps led by three, 12-- 9 at the run in 3:30 mark, but a of the second quarter put the Pioneers ahead to stay at and they never looked back. Lehi built lead up a of the way through the third period and the closest Wasatch could get was within seven at 4:12 of the fourth. 9-- 3 18-1- 5, Bank With Steve three-quarte- rs 16-poi- nt Outstanding against the are fortunate that Steve Swensen joined our staff. He is vice president in charge of lending and business development. However, Steve, like our other officers, will help you with all of your banking needs. We specialize in serving people rather than narrow banking disciplines. Come in and sy hello, we think you'll enjoy banking with Steve. We Wasps was Jeremy Hyde, who was once told to forget basketball; it wasn't his sport. Hyde wheeled and dealt for six layups, missed one shot from the line and pulled down 12 rebounds--no- t bad for a kid who should have forgotten basketball! He trailed Kodie Francom who ended the evening with 16 points on two from the field and 12 of 15 from the line; eight of ten in the final period. Sophomore Jon Bailey was steady at the post with nine points, followed by Ekins' eight, Mattson's seven, Brian Cook's and Childs' four each. Marc Wilson added two on a driving layup. Atwood was ecstatic over the win at Wasatch; one of the teams he perennially hopes to defeat. Now they face the Cougars and Spartans this week, Wednesday and Friday. They lost to both teams earlier in the season, but appear to have jelled now and would like nothing more than to close out the season with five victories.
