The Order is an international organization with more than 4100 organizations in the Continental United States, Hawaii, England, and Canada. Pleasant Grove FOE 3372 was formed in 1968 with a Charter membership list of 86 gentlemen and 59 ladies. They now have approximately 600 men and 500 women members. The Eagles donate much time and money to charitable organizations. The Pleasant Grove lodge is having our Big 6 charities drive which consists of: Crippled Children, Heart Fund, Arthritis Foundation, Cancer Fund, Kidney Foundation, and Diabetes. The local lodge donates and raises approximately $6,000 a year. It is time for the Big 6 Charities Dinner and Dance for 1987. Come help support the Big 6 Charities on Saturday, April 11, at the Pleasant Grove Eagles 3372 Lodge. The dinner (ham and scallop pot) begins at 7 p.m. At 9 you can listen and dance to the music of the Sage Band. Remember that the proceeds from this function support the above mentioned charitable 6 organizations. They look forward to seeing you and your guests at the lodge. For any clarification please call: Gina at 224-947- 1. Proceeds will help Ulster Project-Utait a organization which carries on a peacemaking effort for Catholic and Protestant teenagers. Each year, youth are invited from northern Ireland to spend a month in Utah together. Tom and Gael Shults, an American Fork couple, will present a benefit concert of traditional Irish music Friday, April 10, at the Eldred Center, 270 W. 500 North, Provo. The two-hoprogram will also feature Salt Lake City fiddler Rex Blazer. Suggested donations for the concert are $4 per person or $10 per family. It has been noted that the program is excellent family The "Lifeline" program at American Fork Hospital offers independence to the elderly and handicapped. Lifeline is an emergency response system that allows the elderly and handicapped to summon help at the touch of a button. The system connects subscribers to a main unit at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center. "It offers freedom and independence to people who are older or handicapped," says Dr. Dennis Hartle, director of cardiopulmonary at AFH. Hartle is in charge of the Lifeliae program at AFH. "It is reassuring to them to know there is help if they need it. I think the families are the ones who like it the most. It gives them a good feeling that their loved ones can get help if they need it." The Lifeline unit is the size of an answering machine that sits under the telephone. Each person wears a bracelet or necklace with a triggering device. If help is needed, they can push the button they are wearing or the button on the machine under the phone. This triggers an alarm at UVRMC. At this point, a list of respondents are phoned. These are neighbors and family members. Hartle said, "There's a list of six people that are called. If none of them can be reached, then police are called to check on the person." According to Hartle, there is also a button that must be reset every day on the lifeline machine. If the button is not reset, a call is made to the person to see if they are okay. "It's such a simple thing, but it provides a lot of reassurance for subscribers and their families," he said. Six people from American Fork area currently subscribe to Lifeline. Mrs. Sylva Johnston, 80, uses the Lifeline system. Johnston, who is confined to a wheelchair said, "I've never had to use it, but it gives you a real feeling of security." Johnston says when her children found out about the Lifeline program they thought it was a great idea. "They were glad I'd have it because they worry about me sometimes." "Most people never use it, but we have had some cases where people have needed help," said Hartle. "We've had people wake up in the morning with the flu and need help, or someone breaks a hip. It's just good to have." As for the future of the Lifeline program, Hartle sees it growing tremendously. "It's catching on fast and some day all kinds of people will be using it," he predicted. Proceeds from the concert will pay air fare, ground transportation .costs, insurance and activities for the month. Host families are volunteers. help "Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band," and "When I'm " Sixty-four.- Losee and harpist Janet Bensing will play two numbers with the orchestra, "Clair de Lune" by Claude Debussy and "Chanson dans la Nuit" by Carlos Salzedo.
