The Family Trophy was taken home by the Rex Rowley Family. Rex and his three children competed for the family honor. Lisa Miyagi was the top individual player and Jim Howe won the 9th grade through adult division. The tournament will be held semiannually, in the spring and the fall. Howe said that tournament regulations expected chess players Winners of the Lehi Invitational Chess Tournament were announced today by Jim Howe, tournament coordinator. The contest was held May 18 and 19 at the Lehi High School with 18 chess players participating. Hito Miyagi was winner of the first grade division; Second grade winner was Donovan Rowley and Bart Moffett won the third grade division. Zane Gray won fourth grade and Alawna Rowley was winner of fifth graders. Lisa Miyagi won the sixth grade division and Todd Adams and Ben Hunter, both to play for one and one half hours in this tournament but because of the intensity and competitive quality of the meet, some games continued for three hours. "We hope to get more people out next time. We know there are a lot of closet chess players out there and we'd like them to come out for our next tournament in the fall," Howe stated. "We now have 20 official members of the United States Chess Federation in Lehi. That's a great number for a town the size of Lehi," Howe said. Lucero named to all region team Lehi's baseball stalwart, Bob Lucero, was named to the Region Eight All Region Baseball team.
