First game for the Pioneers will be at home against West Jordan on Aug. 26 at 5 p.m. Coach Lou Andrus is excited. He thinks his team is going to produce victories this year. "We've got a real good nucleus back and they have a great attitude," he said. "We're working hard but we're having fun. We're going to have a good team." Andrus' only concern is the lack of depth. "We've got some real good talent back from last year, that gives us some valuable experience. Bob Lucero's back at quarterback and Two-a-day- linemen defensive Shelton, Geyerman and Wall are eager to begin the new season. We've also got Bob Beal, Evan Gordon, Todd Street, Andy Madsen and Cory Downs back. That's quite a few faces we were glad to have back," Andrus said. Others who will be playing for instate college and university teams are Mike Hamby who is a starter for Utah State and Dave White who will suit up for Dixie. Ogdens Carpets donated new carpet for the training room, a great for the facility improvement according to the coach. Another reason for optimism is the fact that even though there are few juniors on the team, there is a good group of sophs and ninth graders who will get a lot of playing time, thus giving the youngsters valuable experience for next year.
