Some of the top cowboys in the nation will be participating in rodeo events. Cotton Rosser, producer of the Flying U Rodeo informed the Civic Improvement Association that 23 of the nations top rodeo stars will be on hand to help provide the excitement at the rodeo this year. Parades start Thursday evening with the Stock Parade scheduled to begin at Sixth North and First East Mayor and Mrs. Garry Sampson will be the Grand Marshalls of the Stock Parade and will ride in a special mode of transportation provided by Wayne Newman. Other events planned for Thursday are events at the Lehi Swimming Pool. Kelly the Clown will be at the pool and BYU Diving Team divers will a give demonstration. There will be swimming games and relays for children. One of the best rodeos in the west will begin with the Grand Entry at 8 p.m. Thursday night. Cotton Rosser will again pit some of the world's best bucking horses and bulls against the talents of cowboys who gather each year to try to win over $5000.00 being offered the winners. Folks were in town buying new boots, new western . hats, and children were sporting new Levis, in preparation for the tig celebration. Lehi Free Press writers went out on the street to ask shoppers what they enjoyed most about the Lehi Roundup Celebration. ' " - ' ' t x On Friday a Cultural Arts and Hobby Show will be in the Lehi Civic Center, 150 North 100 East. Displays of art, sewing, quilts, and hobbies of all kinds will be on exhibit all afternoon and evening. Lehi's mammoth miniature parade will begin at 6 p.m. The parade will start at Wines Park , Vera Trane, age not listed, "I love having my front lawn full of people, lads, neighbors and my family watching the parade. That's a highlight" .aia rsorcn, men wesi 10 jra west then south to Main Street and east to 3rd East to the Armory. Over 100 entries have signed to enter the Parade! The second night of the rodeo begins at 8 p.m. at the Rodeo Arena on 5th West A western dance will be held at the Colonial House at 10 p.m. Saturdays events start with an Chuckwagon morning early Breakfast at Wines Park. The breakfast is being sponsored by Lehi Boys Baseball. Events take that place throughout the day are as follows: Chuckwagon Breakfast 1 Evelyn Woffinden - "I love the and parades. Don't miss this opportunity to meet old friends and neighbors, visit, and eat some of the best grub in the west. 20 Mile Bike Race Another exciting event will pit the best bikers in a race beginning at Wines Park at 7:30 a.m. This race is for the experienced biker. Medals will be awarded. Registration starts at 7:00 a.m. An entry fee of $4.00 will be charged to cover costs. 4--' j 5,000 Meter Run Lehi annual Roundup Days 5000 Meter Run (3.1m) begins at Wines Park at 8:00 a.m. Registration begins at 7:00 a.m. An entry fee of $4.50 will be charged. Children's Bike Race Kevin Norris seven, "I like the rodeo the best, especially the buckui' bulls!" A Children's Bike Race will be held at 8:30 a.m. with registration at 7 a.m. An entry fee of $4.00 will be charged. Mammoth Parade repeated at 10 a.m. Saturday Morning The Lehi Parade will be repeated at a new time! Parade time on Saturday is 10 a.m. The route will be the same as Friday's parade. Miniature-Mammot- h Cultural Display at Civic Center Lehi's best seamstresses and handcrafters will display their work at Iichi Cultural Arts and Hie , Hull, "No comment" fr.V:v!fwonpage2 Hobby Show from 1 1 :00 a.m. until 6 p.m. The event will continue at the Ijehi Civic Center. THE NATION'S TOP COWBOYS will be participating in the Lehi Roundup Rodeo events. The rodeo will begin with the grand entry at p.m. this Thursday. Over $5000 of prize money is being offered. Main Street Bar-B-Q- ue A Bar B Que sponsored by Lehi 16th Ward Elders will be held at Triangle Park, 5th West Main Street, from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m. on Saturday. The public is invited. The Elders will cook up delicious beef and pork and a delightful menu of old western favorites. Don't miss this one! bar-b-que- d Hutch's Mineral and Hobby Show Lehi's great entrepeneur, Harold Hutching will host a Mineral and Hobby Show at 50 East Main, Hutchs' Store, Saturday from 1 to 4:30 p.m. A very interesting and educational exhibit for all and you're invited! Lehi Fun Day at Civic Center Lawns There will be something for everyone at the Lehi Civic Center when Fun Day begins Saturday afternoon. Children can drive miniature cars, they can ride on motorized wing swings, have a ride on the Moon Walk, get wet in the Dunking Machine, have their portrait painted, try the Fish Pond or the Fortune Tellers, win a prize at the Ring Toss, have a hand at Dart Throwing, or get in the Big Wheel Race for Children! Pet Show A Pet Show for all children who want to show off their pets will be held at 1 p.m. on the lawn north of the Lehi Civic Center. Awards will be given for The Furriest, The Smartest, The Ugliest, The Biggest, The Shaggiest, and many other categories. Don't miss the Pet Show! It is being sponsored by the Lehi Chamber of Commerce. Games and Races Games and races for children will be held at the Junior High East Lawn at 2:30 p.m. A pie eating contest with the pies being donated by the Lehi Baker will be held, also at 2:30, at the famous Money in the all Straw is for game A children. adventuresome Greased Pole Climb will be held at 3:30 p.m. and at 4 p.m. a Chicken Chase will take place. Water Fight The annual Water Fight pitting the Lehi City Fathers against the Lehi Fire Department will be held on the Junior High East Lawn. Last Night of the Lehi Rodeo The final night of the Lehi Rodeo will be held at 8 p.m. Saturday night. The action will culminate three nights of thrills, chills, spills and rodeo at its best. Winners will be tallied for all three nights and prize money be awarded after winning times are calculated. Lehi's beautiful rodeo royalty will be present at all three nights of the rodeo, as well as royalty from ' 8 neighboring cities and other rodeos from throughout the state. The Grand Entry is one of the thrilling moments of the rodeo. The beautiful red, white and blue of the nation is brought into the arena to the accompaniment of stirring patriotic music, the thundering hooves of horses being riden by royalties, personnel from the Flying U and Cotton Rosser himself. Lex Connelly to Announce the Rodeo Lex Connelly, premier rodeo announcer, will again bring excitement to rodeo fans as he describes the action in his own inimitable style. He spices the show with his brand of humour with a definite cowpoke accent. Lex Connelly is known throughout the United States for his prowess and skill in bringing the action into full understanding to those watching. Sampsons are Grand Marshals Mayor and wife lead stock parade Mayor and Mrsi Garry R. Sampson will be grand marshalls of the Lehi Stock Parade Thursday night at 6 p.m. Mayor Sampson was born in Delta but after the family moved to Lehi he received his education in from Utah Lehi and graduated Technical College in Salt Lake City. He is employed as personnel manager all.C.P.A. of the An active member Republican Parly, he was serving as a Lehi City Councilman when he received the mayor's appointment following the resignation of former mayor, A.E. Ellison. Garry was sworn on July 19, 19B2. He has served as a Republican Parly , representative and was president of the Lehi Band Com mittee.1 Active in the LUS Church he has been an officer of serveral Priesthood Quorums and is in the 12lh Ward Bishopric. A licensed barber and hair stylist, he also enjoys painting in waters and oils. He and his wife Kaye, were former members of the Dance Set. Kaye is also a graduate of Lehi High, a PTA worker and aided in g efforts of the Lehi Band Association. She is on the Parade Committee and has served as a Primary organist and teacher. She and the Mayor have six children: Scott, 19, who will leave next month to serve an LDS mission in Spokane, Washington; Shawn, 17; Stacy, 15; DaraLyn, 13; Travis, 10, and Ryan, 8. fund-riasin- MAYOR AM) MRS.
