The hazards of hunting game in a wild and untamed land were many, but it was often the only alternative to starvation. During this fall and winter season, more than 20 million Americans will again take to the open country to hunt. Today's hunter may have different motives and rewards, but many of the hazards our ancestors faced still exist. For this reason, the Utah Safety Council points out hazard to that: "Although the primary earlier hunters was a hostile environment, today's hunter carries his primary hazard with him - his gun. Fortunately, hunting and firearm accidents have something in common with all mishaps - they are preventable." "Prevention, requires that we first identify the areas and problem place them in proper Then, prospective. effective coun- - termeasures precautions and can be taken.
