March will next be Thur sday and Friday, March 19 and 20, beginning at 7:30 p.m. at the school. ar Children's theater will be a part of this year's Mormon Festival of Arts as the Whittlin' Whistlin' Brigade performs in the Nelke Experimental Theater at Brigham Young University. Running two subsequent "The weekends, Players" and "Beauty and the Beast and Other Magical Tourning Tales" will be presented by the Department of Theater and Cinematic Arts on March 4 and March respectively. Both shows are at 6 p.m. 12-1- 19-2- "The Players," directed by Paula Miller, are a division of the Brigade which focuses on various types of travelling troupes. Their show begins with soft shoe, tap, and slapstick to depict American Vaudeville entertainment and moves on to Italian Commedia d'el Arte. Using mime, the players present in this sequence "Clown of God," the story of a juggler who performs for the Christ Child. The Players also present a scene from "Midsummer Night's Dream" to illustrate the English Shakespearean style. They close their by imperformance provising a fairy tale as told by a child from the audience. The second week of the Whittlin' Whistlin' Brigade run features puppets. Under the direction of Rosemarie Howard, tales from around the world will be presented using both small puppets and life- size ones. Sought with "Gulliver's Travels to Lilliput" from England and "Jaberwocky," an imaginery piece. The final international tale is "Tongue-Cu- t Sparrow" from Japan. A puppet tour guide, "Englebert," directs the children from "land to land" and from "story to story." The final piece presented by the group, "Sister Missionaries," is set in Mexico and was written by a member of the troupe, Robbin Olsen. Tickets for the event can be obtained at the theatre ticket office of the Harris Fine Arts Center at BYU.
