The new Grand County high school facility will include a 600 seat auditorium, so drama could be a part of the curriculum, if it is suppported by the administration. PUBLIC HEARINGS: There will be two public hearings at the next Town Council meeting on May 14th. One issue is whether or not to close the lower end of Shafer Lane to general traffic (but retaining fire truck access). The second will involve two possible amendments to the zoning ordinance. One amendment clears up muddled language concerning temporary dwellings, but doesn’t change existing policy. (RV ’s and trailers can be used for temporary dwellings, but structures such as sheds and gara— ges can’t.) The second involves minor changes to differentiate home and premise occupations. COMET HALE-BOPP The comet is still visible during the first hour after nightfall. (Look straight down the valley, above the horizon.) It is visible in the eastern sky, just before the sky begins to lighten. Binoculars give a dramatic view of the comet. Optimum moon— less viewing occurs April 26-May 9. Bring your best junk and meet your neighbors! For more information contact Barbara Zinn or Cris Coffee at 259-2245. The Town Council is finally near a through traffic. A public hearing, followed by the possible adoption of an ordinance closing the road is scheduled for the next Town Council meeting, May 14th. Through traffic between the Seventh Day Academy, the Loop Road and Castle Valley Drive has long been an irritant for most of the residents living on Shafer Lane. The property owners of the lots at the end of Shafer have repeated petitioned both the Town and the POA to close the road to all but emergency vehicle access. However, true to form in Castle Valley, a small, but very vocal minority, has continued to advocate keeping the road open. According to Mayor Valli Smouse, the current road closure ordinance will not “vacate,” i.e. permanently abandon the road, but will only “close” the road. This presumably means that another Town Council could re-open the road at a future date. Since having two entrances to the community and a possible driving “loop” through the valley has r '- fications well beyond the immediate negative impacts to Shafer Lane —MORE SHAFER, p. 5 POA HELP WANTED: The POA is looking for occasional help with mailings and other office work.
