Show CASTLE VALLEY TIMES LIGHTIVING TIMES Castle Valley, Utah - Volume 5, Number 7 - LIGHTNING STRIKES CV RESIDENT Last week. while many Castle Valley residents watched the spectacular lightning display from their porches and yards, one Castle Valley man had an encounter of a much closer kind. At about 10:30 pm Tuesday evening, Fritz Bachman was returning from Moab on his motorcycle. He last remembers turning the corner at Castle Valley Drive and Amber Lane, and beginning to hard up Castle Valley Drive. At about that time neighbors Joan Sangree and Ken Johnson both heard an unusually loud clap of thunder and thought lightning had hit their houses. Another CV resident was driving up Castle Valley Drive shortly thereafter, and happened to glimpse something odd just off the road across from the LDS Church. Upon turning around and returning to the church area, he found Fritz and his motorcycle. Fortunately the injuries weren‘t more severe, given what happened. Apparently Fritz was lucky enough to fly through thejoint between the upper and lower sections of the deer fence. His motorcycle must have made the hole in the fence below where he went through. (The survey is to determine whether the community is to remain primarily a residential area or what size and scope of commercial activities might be permitted.) Board members Richard Williams and George Ottinger voted against sending the survey; members Rebecca Martin and Melody Taylor voted for sending the survey. Motion died on the tie vote. Board member Ray Taylor was absent. The Town Cormcil decided to exclude the non-residing property owners from participation in this important survey. There had been some hope that the POA Board (which is supposed to represent the interests of the Bookcliffs; the other was a large all property owners) would act to give its membership some input into the range fire across the Colorado River in the Dolores Triangle. For the past several years the Town has set the following fire restrictions: 1) Banning open fires for any purpose. 2) Prohibiting any type of fireworks. 3) “Welding, metal grinding, or other processes known to produce sparks and in the Town. How large do we want businesses to become? How many employees should they be allowed to have (if any) and under what circumstances? To what extent do we want to open the Town to tourist industries? Or even, should we try to limit businesses at all?
