What are these meetings about? They are about real alcohol—related diffi- culties that people experience in their lives. People seeking help learn to rely on twelve steps, designed by the founders of Alcoholics Anonymous, to be followed as a program for recovery Firestation, stay Wed of the month). Payment of $100 to Lisa Katz for bookkeeping services approved. Ray volunteered to handle notice letters about encroaching fences. Lois Oliver said that copy machine is in shipment (maintenance and operating to be shared with Town). A new version of the Delinquent Dues Policy was discussed. Its format more clearly shows members the time frame and consequences of delinquent dues in a chronological manner. It in- corporated the By—law changes adopted on 10/ 14/95 that denies voting power to any lot owner who is delinquent in dues payment of any monies whatsoever. Those on a payment plan can vote if current on their payments. The policy also included some language from the covenants. The motion to adopt the new policy was made by George, seconded by Ray and passed unanimously. The Board decided that no liens would be placed or loss of voting from their common problems. How Does it work? People from every walk of life meet to- gether confidentially, to discuss the twelve steps and the issues for which they are seeking help . Do I have to say anything? Those who wish to speak are encour- aged to do so; those who would rather sit and listen are welcome also. Everything that is said in a meeting is held in confidence. Do I have to join? No record is kept of attendance. Meetings using the twelve step format are simply "available"; they are held at a regular time and place so that those seeking help know when and where they can go to find the support they need. Who supports it? Meetings are self-supporting through the voluntary contributions of the peo— ple attending. These programs are not Is this a religious fellowship? No. Members of any faith, or none at all, are welcome, and discussion of idea that a spiritual power can help in solving problems, but people are free to define that power in their own terms. Does the program have professional counselors or refer people to treatment centers? No. Twelve step programs are entirely non-professional. Through the sharing of personal experiences, people gain in- sight into dealing with their own situations. The Castle Valley meetings are: Al— Anon/Adult Children Of Alcoholics on Mondays, for adult family members from families where drinking is/has been a problem, and Alcoholics Anonymous on Thursdays, for people with an honest desire to quit drinking. Other meetings are available in Moab as well, and a meeting schedule can be provided on request.
