Show BORROWED TIMES - MAY 1994 . 7 their new nursery on Williams Way in Moab. Anne Goodenough and Ed Dederian have ordered seedlings from these problems, particularly the erosion of bar ditches on the sides of our roads. Merrill Brady has long and varied experience with roads, what works and what doesn’t. He says there is no quick or inexpensive fix for our roads. Hay bales for bar ditches have been suggested in the past; Merrill says the State used them but has given them up of . long-term solution, according to Merrill, is to lay down six to eight inches of large-size gravel on the side roads. When spreading the gravel, we could blade the larger rocks down into the bar ditches to help control erosion there. Using large enough gravel is important because smaller gravel gets lost under the mud in no time. Merrill remembers how he once dug down through 8" of mud in his own driveway and discovered the small gravel he had laid down in 1979! He acknowledges that this road work is expensive but has some proposals for accomplishing it in stages: The town could get a permit to load our own gravel from Ida Gulch. Using B&C road funds (not including any POA dues), We could gravel some section of side road each year until they /0\ May/June Star Stuff Forestry).
