Show WINTER TIMES - DECEMBER 1993 - 7 Letters to the Times Letter of Resignation Castle Valley RR POA Dear Board of Directors: This letter shall serve as my notice of resignation from the property owner’s board of directors. Ifeel that my presence on this board causes a distraction from the important tasks at hand, because of the time that has to be spent pacifying Merrill Brady. I did not have any intentions of running for this office to serve as an antagonism or target for Mr. Brady. I am not a martyr by nature. I have always had a willingness to serve for unselfish reasons. We don’t pay $425 a year to belong to this association to be continually browbeat. I am not willing to be a guinea pig in a court case to test the by-laws and covenants. I don’t think that is good use of our precious monies. I know that my resignation will probably give Merrill Brady great joy. Everyone deserves to have some joy in their life. Since I will no longer be serving as Merrill’s public focus of hate and discontent, I feel that he will now transfer that energy towards someone else on the board or council. I just want to remind you that he believes that he knows what another person’s intentions and motivations are. He is just a human being like the rest of us, and doesn’t possess any powers of mind reading. I feel that the members who gave me their 131 votes would not be served in the manner they wished of me by Bill Riggs. I feel that Ken Johnson would better serve my constituents. I recall that Ken Johnson did a fine job of serving the association in the past. I give my endorsement to replace me to Ken Johnson. I am still willing to serve on the community lot committee as a private citizen. I will also assist in any way that my knowledge or background is beneficial. I have for the most part found my public service to be rewarding. Thank you for the opportunity to serve you. Very sincerely, Janie Tuft PS. I would like to request that this letter be read in its entirety at your January meeting. I would also like this letter to be published in the CV Times. feelings, and thought others might be interested. Can you imagine what a thrill of a lifetime it would be to hang—glide off Castle Rock? Or to see this country from the air? Maybe it’s because I am kind of anchored, but each time we drive up toward Don’s Lake or North Beaver Mesa the view of country allowed by some of the road is something that thrills me every time. I can’t get enough of it. This area is so beautiful. I’ll agree that tourists are a pain. Some are inconsiderate and a few are destructive. I don’t know how that could be stopped, but I do feel that tourists who come here and especially those who camp along the River Road should help pay for part of the costs they create. If a way could be devised I think a lot of them would feel a greater personal responsibility. But we surely should be able to understand why people get a thrill out of coming here. It is God's creation. I believe He loves beauty too and means for people to enjoy it. Nor do I think He greatly likes niggardly people. Once, a long time ago, there was a geyser at Woods Cross on Hwy 191 between Green River and Price. It frequently shot a high shaft of white water into the air. Everyone watched for and enjoyed it. Some enterprising man built a store and service station there. Most people stopped at his store partly to make sure they saw the geyser go off. He *fl' had a good business. Then the man decided to build a high fence around the geyser and charge people to see it. One old gentleman told him, “If you do, it will quit going off.” It did. Now there is nothing there but the shambles of old buildings. We can’t put a high fence around Castle Rock, but do we have the right to curtail other people’s innocent enjoyment? I’m sure Ihave been a nuisance to some on times when I have wanted to see something special or new. I appreciate the tolerance shown me. And while there are some who won’t appreciate it, most of those who come to our valley will be more considerate of us if we are of them. We have appreciated your Valley Times and enjoyed the views and opinions expressed, even though we don’t always agree. Thanks for your work. ——Gwen Martineau Open Letter to Neighbors I recently found a set of horse tracks on our lot which followed a path everywhere just out of sight of the spot where I often tie my dogs at night. They intercepted my privacy fence, followed it to the open rear corner, then inside, between my home and the utility building I am constructing, immediately outside my children’s bedroom window. The tracks seemed to stop at several places, ore») fi'fl‘ Shares Feelings I know this subject is a little controversial, but when the hang-glider came off Castle Rock awhile back I couldn’t help but have some of these A Bed and Breakfast Eric Thomson & Lynn Forbes Thomson 801-259-601 2 CVSR 2602, Moab, Utah 84532 |
